Using a six-button Megadrive pad as a CD32 pad

Is this possible? I'm not a big fan of the honeybee Comp Pro CD32 pad, as the d-pad is too flat and stiff for me. I prefer the six-button official megadrive pad by far, and would love to know if there's anyway I can make my Amiga recognize it as a CD32 pad with all buttons functional for games that support this (like Fightin' Spirit and obviously all the CD32 games).

If it's not something I can do myself, is there an adapter I can buy? It's got the exact same amount of buttons as a CD32 pad, so it would be perfect if I could turn it into one.

The PSX controller's d-pad is even worse than the Honeybee controller, so that would be a step back.

It was designed for 3D polygon games. Pretty useless for 2D scroller. Way too long steering play for accurate controls.

The 6 button Sega Megadrive pad is bar-none the *BEST* joypad ever conceived by humanity!

(damn, I sound like Dommaster there. MILITARY SPEC!)

There has to be a way to inflict major hackery and get this pad working on CD32...
What about taking the guts of a CD32 pad and putting them inside the MD 6b pad?

As Akira says, could you not remove the board from the Megadrive controller and fit the CD32 board into the Megadrive contoller shell and wiring up the megadrive buttons?

I can find pictures of open megadrive controller but not CD32 so I am unsure what's actually inside them.

You would have to line up the D-Pad but the rest could be faked maybe...
Actually didn't someone post here a rewired 6 button pad? i think it's possible.

By far the fastest way is to wire the sega pad's buttons to the cd32 pad's pcb..

It is not by any means impossible to create such an adapter, both pads are well documented. Use a PIC chip and start coding..

BY FAR , LONG FAR , the BEST digital joypad is the Saturn's MK1 one

I have tried the psx adaptor, and it is better than using a honeybee pad, and suprisingly the analog functions OK in games like turrican

I beg to differm, the feeling of this pad is not as nice as the VERY FIRST GEN of Sega Genesis ones.
They are doifferent to the 6b pads that came out with the genesis 2

nope the megadrive is a buggy pad believe me
this is the best pad conceived,it's a PC game port joypad but you can mod it easily and convert it to amiga,also it have wheel,4 triggers and also is analog

Sorry, Sandro. But your pad looks awful, especially the d-pad. And the Mega Drive 6-button pad from queenfan's picture is probably from the late Genesis 3 and not a good one.

The official Mega Drive 2 6-button pad is the one of the best pads ever. No doubt.

The Saturn pad is perfect too, but only the smaller PAL model 2/Japan pad. It's pretty much the same as the MD II 6-Button pad above. This is btw a special PSX pad in Saturn pad style. Pretty cool for 2D PSX games.

Correct, and I believe the Genesis 2 Sega 6 Pad was worldwide same size.
I think that it's mini-boomerang shape is why most people STILL wish they could try out the oversized original PSX concept pad.
I'll use a Saturn pad in a heartbeat, but, a Sega 6 was just a wee bit better IMHO.

Both controller have a perfectly spring-mounted d-pad, so you can do smooth and exact movements in all directions. That's where the most of the other d-pads sucks.

I've already asked for a CD32 adapter for the MD II pad. Seems possible at least, hopefully in the near future.
