Your FAVE flight sim......

Hi there folks!! This is Fred, your "Fred-ly" ( groannnn

) neighborhood pilot. As a select few of you may know, I love flight sims more than any other genre. As I was owning an Atari St from 1988 to 1994, i was always playing Their Finest Hour, Blue Max, Reach for the Skies etc. When I would travel to the rich section of town, I'd sit down and play my pals Kraig's Amiga 1200, with a HARD drive, nontheless!!
I would remember the games there were better in sound, graphics and scrolling wise than my Atari versions. Anyway.....what was your fave Amiga flight sim? I am split between B-17 and Fighter Duel Pro (thanks to Ian, Codetapper, Cody and Twist, I would not have been able to play the latter ..youse are my pals!!

Woo, moderastor power abuse

I abused my power as well, and added my fave: F117 Stealth Fighter 2.0

Combat Air Patrol was OK too, I liked quite a few aspects of it (though i could never get to finish a mission, i always fucked up)

Now, Wings?? It ain't a flight sim IMO.

I'd vote for wings as the best one. I don't seem to remember Wings being about anything other than flying....erm...the title kind of gives it away.

What about Battlehawks 1942, falcon and interceptor?

I never was a big fan of flight sims. -Not on Amiga and not on PC. The only flight games I have ever played are Knights of the Sky, Fighter Bomber and Interceptor. I like Knights of the Sky most because it has an unique WW1 atmosphere and games with huge atmosphere get always my vote.

Ooooh, controversy abounds here!

My top two in the list are Knights of the Sky and Birds of Prey. KOTS because I simply love old WW1 - WW2 flight sims, and Birds of Prey because it was just so damn realistic, so gritty, so intense. It had a fast paced intro too. I can't decide between them both.

Interceptor was great, but I confess I could never complete the "Qualification" mission!!! It instructs you to take off from the aircraft carrier, "fly around", then land- but whenever I did this, I never advanced to the next mission. Any help there?

By the way, what about F-15 Strike Eagle 1,2 or 3? I only played 2, and I adored it. It wasn't as realistic as Birds of Prey (you could take multiple missile hits, for example) but it was still cool.

Kheph, I removed Wings because it's about planes, but it's not a simulator by all means. It's got a 'flightsim-esque' section, but that's yer lot. Otherwise the poll coudl have been 'fave Amiga games that have planes in it', and I'd be adding Jetstrike

Rubbish.

The idea of Wings is to fly, that is why there are planes in it.

There is no other thing in the game for user interaction about flying. You fly, you strafe, you bomb. Thats a flight sim to me.

BTW how about adding Carrier Command as well

)

The flying bits in Wings are arcade sections and are definitely not simulations! A simulation implies that the simulation closely resembles the simulated thing...

Hey guys, here's my addition for some more flight sims I own, please add them to the poll:

1) Fighter Bomber - I loved this game (Tim has mentioned it already)

2) F16 Combat Pilot - how could you all forget? It took Falcon head on early in the Amiga flight sim war and I can still remember the reviews in "The Games Machine" all those years back!

3) F29 Retaliator - one of the biggest hyped Amiga flight sims of all time! Where is it in the poll?

4) F19 Stealth Fighter - good solid sim.

5) MY FAVOURITE: Gunship 2000. What a flight sim! Fantastic stuff and great playability make it an Amiga gem. My vote goes to this once added.
