It's not so easy to do if there are a lot of cases. Plus the game uses overlayed hunks (like Wings, damn Cinemaware), so it's more annoying to add patches in the overlayed sections)

About whdload flashing: yes without PRELOAD there doesn't seem to be a cache AT ALL. Maybe Bert could cache files below some size (so reading the same file over and over wouldn't need flashing IF whdload could allocate more memory). I suppose that it's hellish to implement. I had a hard time with JST & files (and it's not over)
I find with overlayed hunks, if you're having trouble patching, is to patch stuff like openlibrary calls and stuff like that, and checking the ASCII string for the library it wants to open and checking offsets of that string, I find is a much easier way when dealing with overlayed stuff.

Overlayed isn't an issue per se (I already fixed such exes, besides, CFou! already fixed the NULL LoadSeg call to patch the protection).

The most annoying thing with overlayed executables is that they aren't supported by IRA, I have to use D68K, which I don't like that much (my resourcing tools support IRA, not D68K).

try to choose the boxing game and fail (if your not very good you will) then a picture with one of the stooges with beaten face should show but it does not

ReSource has partial support for overlay hunks too and is much better suited for this task than D68K in my (highly unbiased ) opinion.
