I rarely get them, but like others, pm is far more sensible, and if it means mods can concentrate on more important things like spammers getting to post, im all for it. Dont remember the last visitor message i got.

Like most people, I don't get them but if its going to save a lot unnecessary work then by all means get rid of the visitor messages in User profile as its not really needed anyway.

Edit: I have 2 messages 1 from DH and the other from Prowler a long time ago, both were good but I still think to save all the extra hassle that its time to say goodbye to this as its causing problems as in the first post. I voted NO in this instance

I have 7 pages of them but they are all before 2010, when I was more active here. I kinda think that social networking defeated their purpose and then defeated itself.

The point is to prevent spam. Spam bots are usually not in your frieds list anyway.

I agree it will prevent spam bots, I believe I mentioned this earlier, but it's kinda bordering on private messages and why have both.

You're not just arguing with me on that one Stingray, you're also arguing with RCK, as he too believes that Visitor Messages are pointless, hence why I created this thread.

Can I remind everybody that Visitor Messages will be removed in 5 days time (Monday 20th Nov 17), if all goes to plan of course.

Please archive anything you see as important onto your own computer for future reference. Once the Visitor Messages have been switched off, and perhaps pruned, you'll no longer have access to them, not even by request.

EDIT: Oh, I have also taken the liberty to close this poll too, as it no longer serves a purpose.

It's strange: I don't have them since the 15/11 at least, and I cannot see them in your page now; maybe something about the cache?

Nah! They are still there, I just switched mine off in my user cp, I can still see yours and view who sent you what

EDIT: Hope it's not a GM thing, where we'll still see them even if they're switched off

Definitely a moderator thing then, I turned them off and can't see them.
But I also can see other people's. So RCK has not made them go away.



So:
- Mods can see visitor messages even if users turn them off
- The VM system has NOT been shut down yet. Ping RCK.

@Akira, yeah, anyone can see mine as I haven't switched the option off...

I can however, see all of yours even though you've disabled this:



...it's definitely a GM thing, we need to be able to I guess, given that all the new "spammers" only use visitor messages to wreak havoc.
