Civilization Oddity, Can You Help?

Hi All
I'm slowly getting through some play testing of my collection ready for sale, with some group members already enjoying the fruits of my labours.
I've come across an oddity which I can't explain or even remember from back in the day, I attached a couple of pictures showing my copy of Civilization which I pre ordered way back when computer stores were few and far between, it actually looks like I've got a pre release or media review edition?
Any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated, disk A label has a genuine logo but handwritten label, version number on screen is 855.04

Also odd is during gameplay diskswaps request disk 1, disk 2 etc. However all the disks are labelled A-D?

Anyone with thoughts or answers?

Pretty sure all Microprose games were marked on the physical disk as A, B C etc.

A=1
B=2
C=3
D=4

It's really no big deal.

It was more the first disk not having the same style as disks 2-4, they are a stamped logo but disk 1 is a genuine Microprose label with handwritten info.

Was the game sealed when you bought it? My best guess is that the company/person you ordered it from had received a replacement disk 1. Presumably, they tested it before selling it and found the original disk to be defective. Who knows.

Yes, boxed and sealed, it was a pre-order as there was only one computer store for miles and it landed around a week or so before the official release as I remember, seems odd even with a defective disk that the replacement would not be logo stamped like the rest.

You could always send the first disk to the Software Preservation Society to be analysed. They may be able to give you a bit more information about it perhaps.
