Loopz
Hey guys. I've been playing the game 'Loopz' this afternoon (http://hol.abime.net/912). I've only discovered this game in the last few weeks as it came on a disk with my Atari STE (boooo! )... so I'm used to the ST version.
But I downloaded the Amiga version today and tried it (on both WinUAE and a real Amiga). The graphics seems really dark and murky compared to the ST version!! The HOL Amiga screenshot seems to be nice and bright... what am I missing here?? |

Try 'Astronut & Wiseman - Trivia Game Show & Loopz' (planetemu.net). For me looks like from the HOL screenshots.

I just tried that one and it still is dark, murky display for me... I'll attach a pic so you can see what I mean.
It's the same on a real Amiga not just WinUAE... I just wonder why I poked the games colours regs with my Action Replay to make them brighter ($0xxx += $0555) but they still look bad, so it's not just being dark - they are also murky and washed out... It's not a bad crack either as I've tried the SPS version too... Last edited by musashi5150; 02 December 2006 at 23:11. |

It looks like the colour registers are set for the Atari ST which only has 8 bits for RGB colour. The Amiga has 16 so you need to double all the values.
I have 2 versions of the game, one has the colour table at $11810: Code:
00011810 0000 0121 0221 0232 0342 0464 0453 0777 ...!.!.2.B.d.S.w 00011820 0743 0760 0057 0210 0310 0521 0632 0777 .C.`.W.....!.2.w W dff182 242 W dff184 442 W dff186 464 W dff188 684 W dff18a 8C8 W dff18c 8a6 W dff18e eee W dff190 e86 W dff192 ec0 W dff195 ae W dff196 420 W dff198 620 W dff19a a42 W dff19c c64 W dff19e eee Then 'g' to restart with the screen nice and bright. I think I grabbed the original pictures for HOL, I will investigate further later. |

Thanks Codetapper. I found 2 colour tables so far - one for the title screens and one for the 'green' levels. There are more for the other levels too. I fixed them in my exe, but it seems weird this was ever released like this...
