Question creating HDF but says volume is full?

Hi

Recently I found some games that want to install or else I have to play around with disks all day long. So I would like to make an Amiga hard-drive (HDF).

I followed the instructions to this chap at:
[ Show youtube player ]
I did everything in the video, 'fastfilesystem', enable RDB mode, and all.
I don't have a boot disk but I have the complete 6 disks and I used disk 'Install' which had everything for this tutorial. Up to the point where I 'Define a New Drive Type', read configuration and click 'OK' it come with

VOLUME
WORKBENCH 3.1
IS FULL

I don't know the reason for this to happen
Would anybody know how I can get around this or what is different?
I am using ~Workbench v3.1 rev 40.42 (1994)(Commodore)(M10)~

I have been able to just use the folders to install Workbench, but I would like to install Workbench 1.3 at some point and this is a good first step to learn to format a drive. Also I would like to do it with all icons and everything working like a proper Amiga.

Thanks for taking the time to read my cry for help. Looking forward to hearing from you all!

-

Eddie

ALWAYS keep original floppy disks (or ADFs) write protected!! There is not a single occasion during installation where something needs to be written to the floppy disks.

NEVER run an installer script in Novice mode. It doesn't ask any questions in this mode. Select Advanced or Expert mode, then you will be asked where to install to.

It just says it's right protected...
Unfortunately it doesn't give an option for advanced or expert.

Drag HDToolbox to RAM and run it from there. Or change the text field reading "drive definitions" to "RAM:drive definitions" before you click ok.

Great! It worked, thank you
Okay, it's let me do whatever I want now. I can do a quick format and exit, which then it wants to reboot. After it loads, moments later the partitions I made show up. When I click on the Workbench Install icon this error pops up :/

The quick format was a bit quick, like instant and I can't open the NDOS partitions so I think something went wrong... From that point it only let me select within the disk ( which is write protected :P ).

I'll try and sort it, thought I'd per-chance see if anyone knew? Could it be the 'fastfilesystem' I borrowed from the disk?

You didn't do a quick format. Select one of the NDOS icons at a time and choose Icon -> Format disk from the menu. Then enter a volume name and click on Quick.

BTW, you should not name the partitions the same as the volumes. This only confuses DOS. Use names like DH0, DH1 etc. for partitions and System, Work etc. for volumes.
