Spud was written by a chap who goes by the name of Karingal - he's know to be a touch hard-nosed in his dealings with the WOS forums (where he's one of the mods).

Care to elaborate on your experience?

I prefer to use UnrealSpeccy.

Up-to-date list of ZX Emulators
http://www.emu-france.com/emulateurs...r-zx-spectrum/

BTW, there is also a stable SpecEmu 3.1 version, including Kempston support for your modern gamepad/joystick, fullscreen, and other options often missing in other emulators, that has no issues with Windows 10 14393.693 (no slowdowns):
http://www.emu-france.com/emulateurs.../1224-specemu/
Still the best.

SpecEmu up to 3.1 07/08/2012 was very accurate and supported joystick too, but recent updates have audio desync issues. You can hear the issue with Chronos 48K (amazing soundtrack!).

Was my favorite because of the accuracy and must-have joystick support…
Ok, have to switch to ZXSpin now…

What's missing ZXSpin 0.7 compared to Speccy or FUSE? I think it has everything you need, including:
  • Keystick remap and real Joystick support
  • DirectX/DDraw/GDI rendering with scaling and filters (e.g. null, Hq2x, ...)
  • aspect ratio and palette adjustment
  • fullscreen/window support
  • (editable) scanlines filters
  • nice and intuitive GUI
Timing routines in ZXSpin are also perfect and you can do heavy multitasking with Windows 10 without losing a single note playing Chronos 48K 5 channels (!) music (many ZX spectrum emulators fail during this test)

What's the issue? Runs flawlessly here, no compatibility settings or hacks needed… please try version 0.7 from the link in #147, as I've seen many sites have old version 0.666.

Strange, now it's working! It only worked before on my Windows 7 computer...

Thank you hexaae for trying to help, but now it is working!

ZXSpin is really a pretty good emulator, confirmed!

I use all 3 and it is rare that something will not play in one, but plays in others. Sure, ZX Spin has lots of extra stuff, but it is missing on going development. (for almost 10 years now)

I will go back to developing ZXSpin at some point. Probably later this year as I have some pretty big plans for it.

The one on the free disk with CU Amiga. It works but there is only one game "Batman". Fun but seems strange to me, as I owned a Commodore 64 back in the day and it was superior over Spectrum and its games.

Never owned a Spectrum but knew friends who had them. I could never fully understand the appeal. Colour clash was terrifying and the sound was just awful. Nevertheless, they were clever for the size. The resolution only improved when Amstrad bought them out in 1986 and introduce the CPC tech, to the 48 and 128.

I have much respect for Sir Sinclair! Although he doesn't want to be remembered as Mr Jet Set F***ing Willy!

Psst.... not supposed to say C64 was better then ZX Spectrum, at least not in Spectrum thread.

And you are right, there are better 'things' to remember Sir Sinclair by....

I'm a very picky user and I can grant ZXSpin has no missing (important) feature. On the contrary offers perfect emulation, and a lot of extra features you can find in the others blended together. It also loads all formats without issues. It's a winner for me, and I'm very happy to have finally switched to ZXSpin

Glad you love it.

IMHO Speculator is still best spectrum emulator, but being commercial, I decline to pay for something you can get for free. Same goes for Spectrum4.

Reason I like FUSE is that raspberrypi retropie uses its core in retroarch.

What exactly did Amstrad do that improved the Speccy?

My apologies to Spectrum lovers. Your link to the C5 was epic! Although he wasn't that far off another amazing design for the future! He is a clever man, I admire his never give up attitude.

After all electric cars are going to dominate soon! Just a shame he designed the C5 to represent a glorified go cart. His X1 was no better either.

Anyways, I am not sure what version or who did the CU Amiga freebie, but that is the Spectrum emulator I use, it works quite good too.

That would be great as it is my favourite ZX emulator. The only issue I have had is with joypads during initialisation and configuration paths (when copy and pasting it).
