os3.9 Mediator Startup times.....
Ok I need your startup times to see if my system is abnormally slow. My Hardware specs are in my sig.
I use OS3.9, 3.1 roms. Warpup with Warp3D on a Picasso96 Voodoo3. I boot into 800x600 16bit. My WB from Cold boots in 1min 48secs. How does this compare to similar systems out there? TIA Last edited by DDNI; 31 October 2007 at 06:54. |

hmmm I took a look at my 50pin terminator. i bought it as an ACTIVE one. However it does not say active anywhere on it.... Is this OK? or have I been sold a pup?
Would a passive terminator cause these issues? |

maybe you have not disabled the extra scsi devices in BPPC menu, and the system scans for them in each startup...?

My HDD is on ID2
I only have SCSI device 0 and 2 enabled with 1 LUN each. I left 0 on as I think that the Terminator is there. Am I right? |

Probably not comparable, but my A4000 with CSMK3, Mediator 4000Di, Voodoo, etc. (cold) boots in a minute (+/-5 seconds). Under two minutes isn't bad at all. If I didn't have a kickflash then I know mine would be another 20-30 seconds.

Ok, I disabled ID0. I also turned on Synchronous for the HDD. Boot time from cold is now 55secs +/- 2 seconds, I have shaved almost a minute from my boot time!
This is a great improvement! Thanks all! I aint done yet either! Any other suggestions? |

Disable the IDE with for example an IDE-killer, that will probably save you another 30sec it will look for an IDE device since I believe you're using only SCSI?

amigo, he uses a 4GB HD on the IDE channel, that cannot be the cause of delay... crossed my mind too, but then I noticed DDNI's sig

Hi again!
Ok I got my system running and booting nice and fast... Thanks all!! BUT I got one last problem. My system takes an absolute age to delete any files. Why is this? My SCSI chain "seems" ok BPPC ---- HDD------Active Term. I create and read files at about 8.5mb/sec only have an issue with delete. I use latest version of sfs EDIT was thinking my SCSI cable has 5 connectors; 1. BPPC 2. Empty 3. HDD 4. Empty 5. Active term Would it solve any issues if I did this? 1. BPPC 2. HDD 3. Active Term 4. Empty 5. Empty or must Terminator always be on last connector Last edited by DDNI; 30 November 2007 at 22:47. |

@DDNI
Really no difference*. Empty connectors don't have any effect. If you move the terminator up the chain you just won't be able to use the connectors after it. * Of course, cable length, the speed of electrons, etc. But, no practical difference. |

Fixed my slow delete bu using setcache from sfs archive and adding 400 buffers to each partition...!
