On topic of fonts - one thing that OS3 sorely needs is more than just one font for GUI elements. It's annoying enough that screen and window title need to use same font, but a lot more annoying that (ASL) gadgets and requester "body" texts also have to use this same font.

supporting different sizes makes sense, but what exactly are the benefits of supporting multiple font-faces here? I think that only leads to a cluttered look.
Do you have any picture or example?

You are free and welcome to open a thread with suggestions for OS3.1.4+, including fonts - we'll be collecting these. I'd like to see some mockups, too.

This thread, however, is about 3.1.4 which won't have what you desire.

Yes, I understand that. It is a bit unclear what 3.1.4 will and will not have.

Well, if the font is good enough, I also see no need to use more font-faces, and just use different sizes of the same font. However, all experience with fonts on Amiga tells me that a font that look great in one size can easily look hopeless in another size - this is the nature of bitmap fonts and low resolution displays.

(Personally I would also select a mono-size font for requesters (but not for screen and window titles), since I use requesters a lot also for displaying output from commands, output that often expects mono-size font.)

There is something like this on Aminet:
http://aminet.net/package/misc/os/Updateto314

Is AmigaOS 3.1.4 already avaible?

Not yet....

BTW, I have already pushed another update (46.1) to Aminet due to a suggestion I received.

One obvious suggestion would be to do it as an Installer script rather than an AmigaDOS script. I will probably do something like that myself in the future as an optional part of the BB4 installer script.

Yes, I understand where you are coming from. An installer script is a much more elegant solution.

But I did it as an AmigaDOS script on purpose, because not everyone can understand Installer´s scripts, but almost anyone will get it with AmigaDOS script.

I want Updateto314 to be for everyone a learning experience on how to update their 3.5/9 systems to 3.1.4, so that they can later build their own, according to their needs and tastes.

You need to wait just a tiny bit more for 3.1.4 to be out.

BTW, it will not be free, you will have to buy it.

I hope your WB 3.1.4 updater for OS 3.9 asks the users to make a backup before they start the update ... otherwise some may want to kill you if something goes wrong ...

Yes, it is first line in the readme on how to use it:

"Back up your harddisk first. No complaints if something wrong happens!"

Anyway, I do some backups within the script.

PS: BTW, dont tell my wife, she will probably post our address... ;-)

Oh, I wholeheartedly agree. That could even be applied to tab-completion.
