Will Pandora be the one to give birth to a proper portable Amiga emulator?

While WinUAE is naturally the best at it altogether, I would like to one day be able to take its power and capability with me on the move, and in a nifty handheld device. WinUAE-X is/was the best effort in the console world, but everything else so far has had to stick with UAE4ALL which - while good in its own right - naturally has a lot less functionality. PSPUAE is a valiant standout effort, but alas I believe it's stuck having to cope with the fact that its host hardware just isn't meaty enough to chug the whole hog at full speed ahead.

Pandora may well be the one handheld to achieve the ultimate feat if whoever the lucky programmer is plays their cards right - I feel it deserves a lot more than just another quick port of UAE4ALL. Wouldn't it be nice to run a nice ClassicWB/WHDLoad setup from the palm of your hand, or emulate your favourite and under-rated CDTV/CD³² title?

I await with long baited breath for what the future holds.

I think the PSP would be meaty enough if there was someone with enough time and coding knowledge.

Name me an Amiga game which necessitated the use of higher resolutions.

Also, WinUAE-X couldn't do higher resolutions either - did that put people off?

You need double pixel and x480 isn't enough. So you have to interpolate 640x512 or higher. It seems pretty stupid to use a 16:9 aspect with a 800x480 resolution.

I think we got our wires mixed up - I thought you were talking about resolutions like 1024x768, 1280x1024..... Picasso96 resolutions and what not.

Take a look at the screenshots on HOL. The bottom part of the screen is missing, you can't see the coin.

They should have gone for 512 pixels high. Silly them!

The psp isnt 512 pixels high either and doesn't look too bad, so its up to the emulator authors to support these modes by missing pixels or half pixels or whatever.

Does anything handheld have the ideal resolution for Amiga emulation?

Not including smartphones and the like, because their controls are terrible.

Cheap PackardBell PocketGear 2030 have ideal screen for Atari ST games (240x320) but it may be too low for Amiga games.

most (all?) games dont use the full vertical resolution, TVs dint display it either and games thus werent dependent on it.
Cutting off those 32 pixels wouldnt affect anything but running workbench in full http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overscan mode.

Erm.. My TV displayed all of it.

Any game which is designed to make the most of PAL screen will not be fully displayed.

Any game I ever played in WinUAE (full Pal res) has black bars (unless you of course mess around with scalers), which makes sense as Pal TVs are at best supposed to display 96.5% of the full height. Mind naming a single one that does use the full resolution?
