Totally agree; not to mention the majority of crap games that don't really offer anything above A500 / A1200 counterparts; except for maybe CD audio, so what...

I'm surprised that he put the boot into Putty though. It still looks great, sounds great and plays great and is full of genuine laugh out loud moments.
He dropped the ball there for sure. |

I had an A1200.
But technically, I never bought it for myself, it was a birthday gift. My father called it a Scalextric as it had the Nigel Mansell game in it. He also put a cushion on top of the box so as to hide the "85Mb HD" sticker on it, much to my surprise. |

Compared to A1200 and A4000 desktop computers the CD32 already didn't stand a chance.
The only feature worth mentioning is the CDROM-drive; which I easily added to my A2000 and A4000. The drive I put in my A4000 even came with a perfectly working CD32 emulator. I did word processing, music, gfx, gaming with A2000+A4000, and could do cd32 gaming on top with my A4000. For A1200 it wasn't that easy/cheap to add an (external) CD-ROM-drive. So you couldn't play CD32 games on it, but still play OCS/ECS/AGA games and do everyhing else above mentioned. What really good games did the CD32 have which weren't available for A500 or A1200 ? Which CD32 games really stood out to convince a buyer (heck, even an Amiga fan) to buy a CD32, and not a SNES or Megadrive ? I can't think of any, really. IMO the CD32 offered nothing to stand out to its competitors. Neither against consoles (SNES, Megadrive), nor against desktop Amigas A1200+A4000. Take off those rose-coloured glasses, the CD32 was crap. |

This AVGN video is actually pretty good representation of what I felt when the CD32 came out ;-)

Here in Germany Commodore sold probably less than 30.000 consoles. It was on display in some Computer shops for a few days. But nobody cared about it. For the obvious reasons. There are a few good CD32 versions like Pirates Gold, but nothing that would justify to buy the hardware. A dead horse from the beginning. And it was released against the advice of the most inhouse hardware designer.

Yes, that was the annoying thing about Commodore management, they simply released stuff that no-one wanted, and I found that out after getting my OCS Amiga 500:
The A500+, which only featured the ECS and a new ROM, but they sold it as an entirely different model rather than an chip kit. The A600, another update that they felt needed a whole new case design, and while it added new features like HD bays and PCMCIA, it cut off a whole part of the keyboard that some games needed. A major misstep. And then, of course, their obsession with CD-ROM, in the form of the CDTV, except they wanted it to go in the living room under the TV together with the VHS and the stereo and have it NOT be specifically called Amiga, as if they were hoping to launch this new format but wanted their own name on it, when it was really Amiga hardware running it. It failed. And they did it again with the CD32, since Commodore finally noticed that consoles were in popular demand, but they couldn't be bothered to bring out a new chipset (unlike Atari who tried with the Jaguar), and they both failed. And worst of all? Commodore didn't learn from their mistakes. As the AVGN is fond of exclaiming: WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? |

Anyone who supports AVGNs video is not an Amiga fan. Everyone is entitled to thier opinion, but to throw an Amiga in the trash, is like burning a countries flag or ripping up the bible. Its sacrilege and its disgusting.

Unlike you, who slags off the AGA machines but claims to be an Amiga fan. Or when you say "you guys are supposed to be Amiga fans", do you not count yourself in that group? |
