Voyages of Discovery HD Install

Hey guys,

I have been attempting to install Voyages of Discovery to HDD, all emulated with WinUAE, but to very little success. The HD Install file is compiled rather than an editable script, and for some reason it fails to detect HDDs defined by WinUAE. My two attempts to get it working are as follows:

1. Creating environment from scratch.
Created a harddisk file with the device name HD0 which was formatted it in Workbench, but double clicking the VoD HD Install icon results in an error message about no harddisk being found.

2. Using ClassicWB P96 as the base
This turned up a different result. When running the HD Install file within that environment, it lists three drives: KRAW, KCON, AUDIO. Only those aren't actually drives, but mounts with handler scripts defined in DEVS:KingCon-mountlist.

This left me hopeful that creating my own mount might solve the problem. I followed this guide which outlines how to get an HDD mounted in WB1.3:

http://winuaehelp.back2roots.org/gui/hard-drives.htm

However, the installation script which still just detects KRAW, KCON, and AUDIO. Weird. I honestly have no idea what I should define in DEVS:mountlist which is probably part of the problem. The configuration can be viewed in the third screenshot and I did run mount GHD: in the CLI.

You can check the WinUAE HDD configuration used in #2 in the first screenshot.

Any suggestions? The conclusion on IRC was that the installation file is just particularly bad for this game, but it would be nice to at least find a way to trick it into working if that would be at all possible, and it seems like it can at least detect certain mounts as HDDs. I also thought it might help to create a hard drive with a different controller (e.g. SCSI or IDE rather than UAE) but no idea how to get those drives showing up in WB either.

Try this installer. I modified it to install to Ram:, then once installed, I copied the game to the HD. I used A1200 4mb wb3.1 config.

Also you don't have to copy the Installer to DF0:, it runs fine from Harddrive.

That's fantastic and works perfectly
Thanks very much for looking it over and getting it working

Can I ask how you modified the installation file? It seems like it would be a handy thing to know although probably out of my skill set.

I changed RAM to DH0.

What a strange installer, has anyone tried it on a real Amiga? Does it give you a choice for the Installation path other than DH0:, i.e DH0:Games?
