A new mag in town

This might read like an hidden advert but I am over the moon about a new gamesmagazine on print which can be bought at your newsagent: Games TM. OK, the site still looks s**t but the mag is great.

It is a multi-format mag looking very similar to videogamesmagazine Edge but with a difference: besides the usual reviews of new 3D games it has a HUGE retro-section covering anything:
How and where to buy your second-hand NeoGeo console and C64s, history of 3D-FPS, A hilarious Miami Vice (C64) vs. GTA Grand Turismo (PS2) article, ZX Spectrum explained, History of Zzap!,
why Zool 2 is crap in comparison to Mario Brothers and so on and so on.

Games TM seems perfectly suited for people interested in todays games but who also have a soft spot for old school systems. Despite its high price (10 Euro) I sincerely hope this mag will attract many (retro) gamers. At least I am convinced.

I am very skeptical about current games mag. They are all poop. But one with a hefty section about retro games might be on the right path....

All of today's mags just love to say how crap old systems are. When a game looks like shite, they go all like "16-bit graphics"...

All a bunch of ignorants.

Let's keep an eye out for this one!

I am sceptical too about the current mags, Akira. But Games TM is the first mag in almost 8 years that I really had to buy because it is aimed at the retrogamer with a gaming past before Doom. It is incredible!

Oh, I forgot the most interesting features of the mag: It has ingame-screenshots of retro-games (average size two whole A4 pages) like Castlevania III and Rainbow Islands. It also features full page adverts of retro-games like Jet Set Willy and Pyamarama.

Ive got that Games TM mag too and will be buying it again. retro section is excellent. Even has old adverts. Nothing about emulation though.

Wow... Is it in English? I would love to get my hands on a mag like this. My favorite mag, Computer Gaming World, has gone to hell in the last few years and don't get me started on P.C. Gamer. Haven't checked the site yet, but I sure hope it is available in the States...

Yes, Games TM is written in English. Reviews are no longer than 4 pages and even reviews of new games refer to classics.

Fore example in the review of Die Hard Vendetta for XBox the reviewer states the game suffers the Rick Dangerous syndrome (i.e. getting trapped, remember the trap, avoiding the trap in the future).

I sincerely hope the mag is available in the US. In The Netherlands it is quite difficult to get. I know only newsagent who sells it.

Whlst you mention 'Rick dangerous' style deaths The Gettaway is full of them, as well as being generally bugged; people float into the air and the game has crashed on several occasions.

I bought Games TM over Xmas and it certainly is at least half-decent. It convinced me to half-invest in a Gamecube which is fully enjoyable. Its' retro section is a bit lacking in knowledge however.
For example there is a list of what 'retro' consoles and computers are worth. It states that an Amiga is around £45 depending on the model, which is about as useful as saying that a piece of string varies in length.

Anyway back to the film noir essay [nnnggghhhhh]

the retro mag was only OK IMO. I always find Edge a ratehr cold magazine and it's covergae of retro retained the same coldness, losing the warmth that usually goes with teh scene.
Also , tehre were far to many pictures of programmers - WHEN WILL THEY LEARN?

totally agree the "Retro" edition of Edge bites, I panned through it at the local newsagency, not much on amiga (if anything?) from what I remember it had too much detail on ping pong machines geez.. maybe the 2nd edition of Retro might be better when they work there way up to 64 + amiga. Wouldn't be great if they did an entire edition on the "retro" amiga, how great would that be!!

I just purchased a copy of Games TM , & I must say its a great read. Definitly recommended. It must be good if it kept me in the bog longer than I 'needed' to be :hoo *ahem*... !

Okay, here is some Games TM promotion again. I have just bought the second issue and it features reviews of 3 all-time Amiga classics: Speedball 2, Stuntcar Racer and Rick Dangerous 1. I more and more like this mag.

So far, I have seen GamesTM only at a newsagent at Den Hague Central Station. I hope the mag will be more widespread in the future.

I got issue two of Games(TM) as well, and it's very good. I tend to read the retro section instead of the main section, though!

They need more Amiga specific stuff though...
