Need help loading an app into Amiga.

Hi. I am new here, and to Amiga. I just downloaded WinUAE and got the Kickstart ROMs loaded and all, but I am having problems loading an app.

I am trying to load an app called JACOSub, but when I load it up, I get this error in the AmigaDOS window:

"Can't open version 0 of diskfont.library
runme.exe failed returncode 20"

I am using all the default options with the emulator.

I did a search on my computer for a runme.exe, and it found nothing. Do I need to download this or something. If so do you know where? I searched google but all I found was some Bahai site, I doubt that has anything to do with it.

Thanks.

Runme.exe is the name of the program you try to run. If you insert an Amiga program into one of the virtual floppy drives, WinUAE automatically creates a virtual floppy disk in memory with that program on it, renamed to "runme.exe" and a startup script which automatically calls runme.exe. This is a special service of WinUAE, usually you would have to create a virtual floppy disk (an ADF file) before you can boot the Amiga.

However, the program you try to run does not work stand-alone. It needs a fully installed Workbench to run. Diskfont.library is part of Workbench.

Thanks. I looked on the Jacosub website, and it said if you had AmigaDOS 1.3 you need an extra file req.library. I downloaded it, but the readme that came with it says to:

"Install the req.library file in your libs: drawer."

What does that mean? Where is the libs: drawer?

Again, thank you.

The Libs drawer is on the Workbench disk. Again, you need a fully installed Workbench to have all those system files and directories.

"Kickstart" is only the BIOS of the Amiga, you also need an operating system ("Workbench") to run programs. Only very few programs (mostly games) can run without an operating system.

Ok, so I found this neat guide to installling OS 3.9:

http://elite79.tripod.com/os39uae/

But I am a little confused. On that page where it says "Copying the AmigaOS3.9 CD." It says something about go to the shell window. Where is that at?

I think this is more your thing, it's a lot easier to install.
http://aiab.emuunlim.com/

There is another package available that does sort of the same thing but its name escapes me at the moment.

But why don't you try the easy way first, and start the emulated Amiga using a good old Workbench floppydisk?
Maybe you can run your program from there.

That site you gave me makes no sense.

But do you know where the Workbench floppy is located?

Workbench disks/adf's are copyrighted material (as is Workbench os3.9) so please don't request them on EAB!

Because you need a legal workbench to install it.
