Had a quick go last night, just to post a score as both threads for this round so far consist of nothing but tumbleweed...

I didn't last very long. I seem to constantly lose health and I'm not sure how to avoid it.

Reached second level. So much harder than C64-version, which I completed back in the day

Never played this before, though it was the first Spectrum game I ever bought with my own money. I'll have another go before the competition ends, but that disk swapping and accessing is a real pain - coupled with the difficulty, I'm sure an hour of playing this would mean more time swapping disks and waiting than an hour of playing Monkey Island 2.....

scored 21,450 and kept falling short of it afterwards.

It's definitely the toughest version I've played.. sometimes knives & pickups take a million bullets to be destroyed!

Only tips are get pickups immediately, try to destroy multiple vehicles with 1 rocket and keep trying.. because there is a rather large 'luck factor' in play here

In my view, Amiga games from 1988 or before are crap with very few exceptions like Dungeon Master, and this one is no exception. Doubt I will play this one again.

Agreed.

Why it's far superior and far more enjoyable successor was not voted for is beyond me?

I played it twice wondered why I was bothering for the 2nd time.

Because this round was only for games released in 1988 and its sequel was released in '89 and thus wasn't eligible.

Yeh, I think of most pre '89 games as "nostalgic nostalgia"
With some notable exceptions like F-18, Dungeon Master, Hybris, IK+ & Arkanoid..

And it's all over here too.

LinesMachine takes gold, but another low turnout from EAB.

Bah! Thought that had already been included for some reason.

Best go and re-do the scores then.
