RegionLock is PAL by default - if the game works in PAL mode correctly RegionLock is set to PAL.
However it is possible that the version of the game was actually sold in the US region - it is more than likely if both of these conditions are met that the game does not have a hardware lockout. If the game RegionLock is marked as NTSC then it contains code that either directly or indirectly prevents it from correctly running on PAL machines or machines running in PAL mode. Whatever the setting is, the pitch and speed of sound is not taken into account as far as correct working is concerned as long as there is no glitch present in-game. Most games use vertical blanking drivers for sound (and the VBL rate changes by he hardware as well as display mode), therefore the sound is slightly off depending on who and where wrote the music - nobody cared about it for real, and such infomation is no longer available. Chances are PAL/US games are originating from Europe, so they sound off when run in NTSC - but the users wouldn't have noticed it, unless they heard the original in the first place... |

Psygnosis were one of the few to care about their NTSC versions, and most of their software was region locked.
Bitmap Brothers were also another that ensured their games worked correctly on NTSC, and region locked their games as well. |
