About this accelerator
Hello i have ordered this turboboard for my desktop 1200(Apollo 1230 Turbo) emaginator. What do you think obaut that. Mainly i want a classic setup for demos and whdload, and since it has 32 mb of ram i liket it very much. How do you see it?
P.D: I didn't know how to put this thread, so i put it in prb. hardware since it is hard. related. Moderators feel free to put to another place if it is convenient. |

Not a bad board. Perhaps the second best 030 board for the A1200.
Which version is it? If it has 32Mbytes then it is probably a MK-II or MK-III What speed 030 is it? Could be worth getting the SCSI module for it if you can. Last edited by alexh; 05 July 2007 at 18:45. |

SCSI is pretty crap on Apollo board to be sincerely honest, its not much better than the internal IDE for speed that I have noted
Still its a great board, and I just LOVE Apollo boards there cheap and easy to fix too |

Ok thanks for the replies, they are valuable. Another question ihave is if the battery of the clock gets carged, or if i will need to install a button type holder for the battery, because the one i see in the photo listed seems to be non-renovable.
Any suggestions? |

The battery is rechargable, but after this length of time, i doubt they will take much of a charge. unfortunately these batterys are non-removable unless you want at it with a soldering iron.
JJB from AMIGA CENTER in france can fit a new battery for you for a small cost. but really, I have a clock. a watch and VCR to tell the time |

Ok, are these type of batteries prone to leak?. I wouldn't want a broken board in some time.
So i can put in (soldering) one of those coin-sized cell holders? Thanks!! |

hmmm
Normally I would say no, they are deemed as the NON-Leakable type of battery, but if its porly stored (which is what happened to my 060 ) they do indeed leak. infact so much so, it killed an IC and lifted a few tracks from the 060 board but JJB came to the RESCUE and now i have my Apollo 060 with dual ram ports (upto 64MB of ram)! [edit] if you are comftable de-soldering the existing component then soldering a new coin type would be quite simple, after all its only the solder points. If i could ask though, please take some pictures of your work before and after it would both a be a joy to see as well as educational to those whom would do it if only they new how. |

Ok, when it arrives i will take a look on it, and when i decide to change the battery will post pics. No problem!
Your help and the others in this post is highly appreciated. Thanks!!!. P.D: Maybe in the future could be using the pcmcia port. Is this card pcmcia friendly?. I have searched through the net but no found a clue. I suppose it is, but when it arrive i will check the memory adrress she uses as some faq recommended. Cheers! |

it should be PCMCIA friendly, as it has its own 32bit memory address controller.
Saying this the Blizzy Mk1 and 2's had issues with the PCMCIA.... hmmm *fingers crossed * |

arguably the blizzy mk3 and mk4 030's @50mhz
(personally i prefer Apollo 030's) although there only at 40mhz, It looks and feels better constructed. I haven't had a sim-port break on any of my apollos, and I have had 4 in my time ( i have two left an 030/060 ) I used to have another apollo 030 and 040 but these got sold / traded on. I used to have a Blizzy Mk4 030 @50, and the sim retainer broke, i was told this was all to common.... meh... bad batch of plastic i put it down to. Apparently Apollos have a slighty fast CHIP access time or so i have read. I personally cannot note this in my tests mind you i wasn`t really looking for it either. but the biggest let down with the apollos is the dire implementation of SCSI, its hardly managed and can really slow-down an 030! (and it gives my 060 heart burn too) so how do you know if a blizzy is for you?
(remember blizzy030's Mk1/2's have repoted issues with not overly being PCMCIA friendly) so is an Apollo card good for you?
so that my opinion I am sure theres a blizzy owner out there right now itching to say something. |

About this accelerator: Urgent Help!!!!!!!
Need your help guys. Today arrived the accelerator, i plugged it in but ithe miggy won't boot, only showed a black screen. Removed the ram stick and try again but no luck.
I saw a jumper to select between scsi/ram, so i removed it and put it in scsi option, and then the system booted, but no fast mem. In sysinfo the 030 was recognized, but it showed little speed. Then i removed the jumper and let it jumperless, and it booted with no fast ram, but this time sysinfo showed the speed it should show, but no fast mem. Then i switched off, and put the jumper again in the ram position,a nd now it boots well, sysinfo shows it correctly, but only shows 8 megs of fast ram. What ias happening?. Do i need to set anything on the early startup? Is the simm defective?. Please mates, help!!!!!!! |

Have you adjusted the jumpers to 32mb?
(EDIT: Does the Apollo1230 use RAM jumpers?.....I am thinking of a 1240) If you have then I would guess faulty RAM. |

The only jumpers this board have are two, one reads scsi and another ram.
No other jumpers left. |

The Apollo has an internal configuration for memory, all you are doing ineffect is turning fast ram on / off.
Its highly possible your SIM (memory module) is damaged, do you have another to test it? |

However for my 2nd A1200 I've a simple Blizzard 1220/4 (68020/28) and I think it's a little jewel with 5.05 Sysinfo Mips and 5.0 AIBB CPU/Latency access memory (better than my Blizzard 1230/IV). In speed Blizzard 1220/4 is very near or better than several 1230 with incredible access memory time. Obviously it has its limits, but if you can't afford at least 68030/40, take this and you will not regret. http://amiga.resource.cx/perf/aibb.p...f=blizzard1220 |
