How big should an amiga .adf list be?

Hi Folks,

I am trying to re-organize my .adf collection. I probably had a 100 or so of these originally - maybe 40-50Mb. Now I notice that tosec amiga collections can really 30-40Gb. OMG!

Let's say if you had 1 working copy of each game (cracked or original)-
* and not including all the varients
* and not including the PD software (ebg 17-bit or LOON docs)
* not the demoscene
* none of the WHDLOAD
* none of Applications software

How big that disk collection of yours be then? I guess 2Gb?

Anywhere from 2-5GB would be a reasonable estimate based on the reasoning that:
  • An up to date TOSEC set has 10.5GB of game ADFs
  • Almost all of those have at least one complete duplicate set which reduces it down to 5GB
  • Many more have multiple dupes - potentially reducing the size to 2-3GB

GameBase Amiga v1.4 has ca. 2300 of ca. 4500 games configured, that adds up to ca. 1.81 GB (individually zipped ADFs only). Draw your own conclusions; I don't know if the average size of the games that are left is the same as that of the games that are in, but it should provide a basic idea at any rate.

(Sorry, due to a minor fuck-up on this computer, I don't have the exact size for the v1.4.3 set handy, but it was only a small update anyways)

Edit: Okay, the v1.4.3 update is ca. 123 MB for 100 more games.

Thanks Guys - just kinda wondered what a clean minimalist set would be sized at. Sometimes having the entire Tosec at hand seems kinda too much.

In the time when HD space doesn't cost much, I don't see a point in this. (nor I see point in having the same game hacked, with virus etc...)

Just get GameBase files and you'll have all you need. (with ADF, SPS and WHDLoad )

hamster, if you want to go that way, maybe you should consider SPS versions: they are pretty much the originals, not cracked not trained.

But you need protection codes for most of those. (Lucas Arts games etc.)

SPS just doesn't feel right
I miss the cracktros, lamerExtermenator and random gurus

Oh and for slimming down, I'd reccomend one dir for nostagic games and one for games that are fun to play.. anything else will just be storage space.
