Amiga 2000 Keyboard

When I got my a2000 I also got a Italian alien type keyboard with it.

As it has some problems with registering when some of the keys are pressed down, I thought to have a look to see if I could fix it.

I opened it up, carefully removing keys, and springs.

I then got to the problem at hand.
I can't get the black cover off the PCB itself.

I know there are screws on the back side, and I have removed those, but when trying to separate them it will not budge.

As I'm afraid of destroying something, I have not used that much force.

Does any one know how to get them apart without destroying something.

I have taken some pictures to show what I am on about.

BTW is there anywhere one can get a replacement spring, as one key was missing a spring when I got it.

Ok, that is an NMB keyboard, you can't separate it without a soldering iron. Each keyswitch needs to be desoldered individually. Probably not where your problem lies. The problem is usually that the bronze contacts tarnish and don't make proper contact. Be very careful when cleaning them, perhaps take a piece of paper and wipe between them with that. Don't use sandpaper or a strong abrasive.

Be very very careful when you refit the space invaders back to the keyswitches. The bronze contacts you see there need to be gently separated with a small screwdriver so that they don't get bent out of shape when you reinstall the invader.

Replacement springs can come from other NMB keyboards. Perhaps you can also find a pen with a small enough spring that you could fashion a replacement out of.

Thanks for quick reply, and tip how to fix this.

The rest of the keyboard is rather dirty, so I will wash it with a tooth brush and some IPA.

Then use soak some car polish paper, or what ever it is called in English, and soak it in IPA, and try to clean them as best I can.

Will try to see if I have a pen with spring, that would work, or else it is going out to the bay, and see what I can find there.

It looks like an A2000A keyboard, those weird German A2000 systems that were more like A1000 than a "real" Amiga B2000 I think the wiring was a little different on them too.

This was a nice site with info on keyboards

Not sure if any A2000As shipped with this keyboard, most of them had the Cherry keyboard. The NMB was available for a while only in 1987 around the same time the A500 was launched.

Seems deskthority is missing the Samsung(?) two membrane A500 keyboard and the blue A600 keyboard. :-)

My A2000 is a rev 6, so I guess this is not the original keyboard.

The repair didn't go to well. I got the technique after a little while, so may have damaged one or two keys while figuring it out.

However several other keys where the metal connectors where crushed. Always on the right side of the 2 for each key.

It now writes a lot of '8's as one of them is probably shorted.

It isn't the best design this keyboard.
