what game suffered greatly due to lack of install option?
These days there is whd load.
but back then. there was no such thing. Most people did not have hdds. Neither did i. I could not bare the disc swapping on many of these adventure games. But when i look now at hol and such i see a great amount of games actually support hdd intalls. Like monkey island or beneth a steel sky. I makes me whish i had an hdd as a kid. anyways Was there any major title with lots of disc that did not support hdd install? |

some games like the ready soft ones like wrath of the demon, space ace, sword of sodan, all the games using crap slow track loaders, and the game with more than 2 disks.

Bump 'n' Burn ECS was great fun for me but I think more time was wasted for disk swapping and loading than playing game.

I thought startdust had an installer?? Super Stardust Definitely did.
The cracked version of X-out was completely unbearable! They seriously screwed up the loading times. The only thing that made it worth while was the awesome loading music |

Space Hulk, only 3 floppies but soooo much changing and loooonngg level loading. Might've been better with >1Mb.
Nice loading music in this one also though. Desert Strike was the same story. At least the levels had quite a long play time. Seem to recall that cannon fodder was much better in this regard. Thank the lord for WHDload |

Overdrive was bad, Striker the Crystal crack was diabolical, and as Hoffman said, X-Out by Paranoimia was crap, because of the way it was cracked, lots and lots of small files.

Mortal Kombat. I vaguely remember that it would take maybe 2 minutes to load the next match. Can't remember if it supported 2 drives. We were showing it to a non gamer friend one night, and we were a little embarrassed that it took so long to load. Nonetheless, we were up 'til 4 AM playing it, it was that good.

If I remember correctly if your Amiga have 2MB of chip RAM Mortal Kombat loading is longer but less frequent.

We both had 1200s at the time. No hard drives. So it would have been way more tortuous playing on a 500, eh? I remember we had a lot of time to trash talk each other between matches.

Darkmere seems to take an age to load. Last time I played it I could feel myself getting older - especially as I died quite quickly after all that disk accessing

Gauntlet 3 has each of its world split in 5 areas where you can walk freely at will, which results that you walk a half minute to its boundary, then it loads 50 seconds - so its more loading than playing.
Projectyle has nice gimmicks like show face of goal scorer, but these gimmicks take forever to load. So also a one disked game can be affected. The Humans make a disk jockey out of the player. I ended using my third, 5.25", drive to avoid the swapping. Of course, I installed all titles for which this was possible to my 120 MB hd for playing. |

sometimes i wonder what they where thinking.
if i made a game for the amiga, floppy management would be an absolute key factor to my game design. it would be made ground up for floppy use. |

Darkmere, what a beautiful game with those detailed graphics, but loading times and disk swapping was real pain in the neck

The decrunching during Walker used to irritate me for whatever reason. Looking back, I guess it wasn't actually that bad though.

Yeah Overdrive is one that springs to mind for me too.
Also Wizkid used to take ages to load, although to be fair it could have been my (ahem) copy. |
