Hooooo WinUAE (TV-out) Display

Merry Xmas all,

I am now running WinUAE through my tv-out videocard. The problem is (in fullscreen mode) the aspect ratio works for some roms but not for others. For example 'State of the Art' wont fit in the display. Anyone know a solution for perfect TV output - that'll be cool.

Display Settings

800x600 16-bit (default = hz)
[*] Full Screen[*] Doubled - Line Mode[*] Centered[*] Horizontal

Regards
Critter

we'll i found a semi-solution, but it doesnt fix the crop affect in 'State of the Art'

untick (horizontal and centered) + Null Filter

atleast now the video is dead in the middle of the screen

If you have a nVidia card, the new detonators allow you to add custom resolutions VERY easily. I have 640 x 512 on my card at the moment and that allows me to get everything in!

You can't customize the TV-Out resolutions. The available resolutions depend on the TV-encoder.

You can on recent Geforce cards. Mine has the 'integrated MV' chip, which is very versatile when it comes to image adjustment/sizing.

I'll have to try that 640x512 trick, although I have a real A1200 rigged up to the telly so don't often need UAE in Tv-out mode.

I disagree-- When I create a custom resolution, I am able to select this resolution on either my monitor OR my TV.

Again it depends on the TV-out thing. I've got a GeForce4 TI4400. I can't use custom resolutions. I can use 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768, anything other than that and my TV goes black. And it might anyway. I tried running winUAE with TV-out once in fullscreen which caused it to black out, even though I had selected 800x600

Yep, this most likely has the Conexant TV chip as did my old Ti200. Better quality than MV actually, but not as versatile for getting perfect overscan.

It seems we can't have our cake and eat it!

I've got a GeForce 2 MX/MX 400. Is that too old to have all the "custom resolutions" features?

Silly question would would that make 1280*1024 the perfect non-custom mode for WinUAE?

Only ask since my TFT screen is designed for 1280*1024 as its optimum resolution. What sort of settings would I need in my UAE config for that then?

Sorry if this seems obvious but I havent got UAE running right now and I'm also at work

It would for anything that uses no overscan. Workbench is fine because you can precisely tweak the display through WBMode and Overscan.

Trouble is I don't know how you'd scale things up by 4X - OpenGL tab perhaps?

So perhaps best solution is grab an NVidia card for custom resolutions?

I'm getting a 3rd XPC for emulation (Amiga, ST and Mac mainly) so I am working out the most useful kit. If I could make do with onboard VGA then the i845GE Shuttle would do and save me £50 for an NVidia VGA card (low spec only needed cos for emus).

It depends on the driver, not the card. Install Forceware 53.03 or later and you should be able to add custom resolutions on the fly. If you want custom resolutions for your TV-Out, the card must be equipped with an Nvidia MV-encoder chip. Alternatively, you can use TVTool. http://tvtool.info/index_e.htm

I use TVTool with these settings:
- Display => Fullscreen 768x576x16, VSync, Doubled lines
- Filter => OpenGL, Bilinear 16 bit, H-Size 6, H-Pos -6

All other display/filter settings at default. It provides ultra-smooth playabilty of e.g. Pinball Dreams and is well centered and filling the screen on my TV. Haven't tested with State of the art, but the OpenGL filter settings can be adjusted to make everything fit perfectly, even without TVTool things should be right. Give it a try!
