Best way to convert BMP/PNG/JPG to IFF?
Hello lads,
I'm in urge need for a neat wallpaper for my AGA Amiga, but I have no tools to convert 'em to IFF... I have Photoshop CS3, but I see no export/save as IFF function. Also, how to make the picture use a palette that the AGA can display in 256 color modes..? Instead of using Windows colors My Amiga is an A1200 030/50MHz (soon 060/50) with ClassicWB adv (WB 3.1) - is IFF the best to use in this situation? I run 256 colors mode. Also, any way to display a full-256 color image in Workbench 3.1 with AGA..? By that I mean a palette out of thousands of colors, but only 256 on screen (palette chosen by the background bitmap) |

AdPro 2.5 is abandonware. It will alow you to convert different files as well it will allow you to render the image in different screen depths (256, 128, ... 2) and save that rendered image. You may want to look at the EAB file server I think it is there. If not look at

I use either xnview or paint shop pro.
I use xnview mostly for quick conversion stuff, but psp for anything a bit more advanced. |

I think PersonalPaint (Amiga) can read IFF, PNG and (?) JPG (not sure about the last one). I haven´t used it for a long time now.

Although I'm not really one of the lads, I'll still tell you the best way. Use Image Studio, it can load in massive images without using up all your ChipRAM like Personal Paint will, you can select a predefined palette to remap the image to, it has good crop and resize options as well as many basic image processing functions. I use it all the time on my A1200 for resizing and remapping massive JPEG/PNG/Etc wallpapers to the 16 colour palette I have locked in Workbench.

While it may be fast, the quality of the HAM rendering is low. Programs such as Adpro produce high quality HAM images. Don't use fast viewers for image conversions. Use proper image processing software

ImageStudio can do batch converting and processing of files, so if you have a directory with hundreds of various-sized JPEG/BMP/PNG images, you can make ImageStudio load, resize, remap and dither every image to your specificed resolution, colour depth and specific palette if you have one, all in one go. You just start it and go off and do something else, like chat on IRC and MSN or play Dynamite, the Amiga multitasks so well.

What actual size do you need to "Re-size" an image for it to be able to display in a normal PAL Amiga screen?
