Ufo Enemy Unknown

Hi all..

Installed UFO onto HDD with WHDLoad (newest version) and after it asked me to install XFDmaster i thought all is well.. until it now says "cant load kick40068.A1200" ????

At the WHDLoad website i found this but still dont understand what i have to do.... "The game requires an installed A1200 Kickstart 3.1 image.
The kickstart image must be located in the directory "Devs:Kickstarts" and
must be named "kick40068.A1200". The image can be extracted from a A1200 with
tools like 'GrabKick' or similar which can be found on aminet.
If the image is of wrong version or altered in any way WHDLoad will quit with
an appropriate requester."
There is no Devs:Kickstarts. ??
i downloaded and installed "GrabKick" and its installed and ready in my Programs file but again i dont know how to use it... any help would be most appreciated.. Regards Sly294

You need an A1200 that has a 3.1 kickrom , dump it with grabkick , rename the resulting file with the name WHDload tells you and put it where it asks you to put it. Easy. I'm assuming your A1200 isn't 3.1 so you have to transfer the kick.rom file to the A1200 where you're installing Ufo.
Can't help anymore as I ain't got WHDLoad (but not for long)

Hi Sly!

This is what you do on a real A1200 with kick3.1:-

1. Put GRABKICK in the C directory of your bootdrive.
2. Open the SHELL and type GRABKICK and press return.
3. The kickfile will now be in RAM: (kick40068)
4. Make a directory called KICKSTARTS within the DEVS drawer
on your boot drive (example:- DH0evs/Kickstarts)
5. Copy the kickfile in RAM: to this drawer.
6. Rename the file to KICK40068.A1200
7. Download the file SKICK345.lha from AMINET and extract the contents.
8. Copy the two files kick40068.A1200.PAT & kick40068.A1200.RTB
into the KICKSTART drawer you previously created.

Bit complicated ;^).... private message me if you have probs.

Cheers

dont play the game unless your 1200 is accelerated with extra ram. On a bog standard system the game can take up to 30 minutes to complete the moves, sure not right away at the start of the game, but when your half way though it, you'll notice the long waits.

I loved the game so much that i put up with the long delay times and finished it. but then i tried it when i accelerated the machine later, and thats how it should be played!.

errrmmm... my real Amiga packed up a little while ago as my daughter split milk all over the keyboard which then basicly blew it up
I'm using the WinUAE 1.2.0 (32 bit) which in that has a 500 meg HDD and the only game i got installed was SWOS 96/97 which crashes when you try to start a new career.. but dont crash if you make a tourny.... always.... i seen a Amiga that im gonna buy off e-bay.. Amiga 1200 (to replace my broke one) with added 4 meg upgrade and 3.1 workbench and about 200 + games... although i got loads of games anyway... oh and a 200 odd ish HDD.
Anyway going backon topic.. can i still use your nice guide to extract the 3.1 kickrom even tho im not using a real amiga ? coz i tried and no luck still... thx for reply

Back again. Unfortunately you need a real A1200 to get the rom.
UAE doesn't use the real one so you can't grab it.

It must be an A1200 with kickstart 3.1 ROMS.

BTW These ROMS are still copyrighted and can't be spread :^(

Cheers
