Not without hardware scrolling, e.g with the Amstrad CPC, MSX1/2, ST etc.

Fixed
And yes, no magic involved, smooth scrolling is just smooth scrolling.

Even without any hardware scrolling, you can have perfect smooth scroll on any machine. (if just to scroll some text around)
ST, had some smooth scroll shooters (Wings of death : http://www.atarilegend.com/games/gam...p?game_id=3177 )
MSX1 and 2 had some games too, take a look at the MSX1 Malaika, for me who had an MSX, and tried it on an emulator, it's just incredible

There are a few exceptions on any machine (mostly vertical scrolling then), not more.

edit: Malaika is indeed a good example. Anyway, homebrew from 2006. I meant commercial games from the 80s/90s.

Obviously you can't beat the real thing, but with emulators you can nearly get all the games ever made for it where as with the real thing you would not be able to get no where near the same amount of games.
When i owned a real amiga between 88 and 93 i only accumulated about 500 games but now on winuae i have got over 4000 and when i have finished the pd games i will have over 6,000 so all the games i missed out on i can now play and free of charge.
So overall there is more enjoyment to be had with the winuae on the games front than the real thing.

Something WinUAE has over real Amigas:

Lotus III runs silky-smooth under WinUAE with activated JIT. It doesn't on Amigas.

Also any cheap PC can run "Elite II: Frontier" emulated via WinUAE drawing the polygons at 50fps with max details whereas you really need a very expensive Amiga to accomplish that.

Still WinUAE can't emulate the sense of nostalgia which real Amiga hardware delivers.

A1200 with ram upgrade with whdload would get you almost every game working on a real amiga no? Bang a cd rom inside and get cd32 as well. Unsure where you are going with that.

Its the cost of buying all the hardware software though to achieve this where with winuae its free and easy to use and rarely lets you down.

Except when you've always had the hardware In that case cost isn't an issue. As for WHDLoad, it's only 20 euros. When you have to start from scratch, then it's perhaps a different story altogether, unless you get lucky.

With me winuae its just so convenient because i have no room for another computer because of my pc & ps3 and hardrives hi-fi etc and a mile of cables.
So unless i win the lottery and get a bigger house im sticking with winuae for the time being.
