Getting back on-topic....
Although maybe not open 3rd party plugs, there were also games quite guilty of in-house plugs. Eg: Sierra Adventure games, Leisure Suit Larry games had numerous plugs from Lefty's Bar featuring a Kings Quest Moosehead, LSL II looking through a fence knothole for a peek at a new "police quest game", LSL 3 finishing around the Sierra backlot etc. Lemmings having level backdrops from a few Psygnosis titles eg: S.O.T.B, Awsome etc. |

Pretty much all Lucasfilm / Lucas Arts adventures have plugs in them. In Monkey Island 2, for example, a 'Max' costume is hanging in the costume shop, and examining it, Guybrush says something like "this makes me want to buy the latest comics by Steve Purcell".

There were a lot of product placements or manufacturer logos that appeared in the Epyx Games series (e.g. California Games)

Oh! and "action biker" which obviously didn't have anything to do with the cardboardy corn snacks which tasted worse than the wrapper of a mouldy McDonalds muffin you found in a refuse bin over a month after purchase.
