ClassicWB alternative

Since ClassicWB hasn't been updated for a while are there any better options for an emulation only powerhouse with all the bells and whistles?

I've looked at Amiga In A Box, which seems more outdated than ClassicWB, and BestWB, which seems more geared towards a real machine.

What exactly is wrong with ClassicWB? I find it perfect for my needs.

Some outdated packages and a pain to update, I gather.

Thread on here not too long ago generally said it's hard to recommend CWB any more as it's gone so long without updates.

They were on about installing on a real machine tho.

Thread is wrong.

ClassicWB is only one I use and IMHO some packages not being updated does not make it work any less or more than other packages.

It is build to work using minimum chip memory and runs flawlessly, and only thing I can think that regular user might consider updating is WHDLoad, in case you play WHDLoad games.

Care to share what packages and why you think are important you are having issue updating??

I can only say what I saw here: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=99129

I did actually install the UAE version of classicwb last night, so we'll see how we get on

In that thread they say that updating ClassicWB to 3.1.4 is problematic. Just don't do that. Or try ClassicWB for 3.9 when updating to 3.1.4. That should be easier.(No scalos)
Better set up you own Workbench, it's not that hard. just rtfm of the packages.

I still don't get all fuss about 3.1.4. If you want that version of OS, stick with it.

If not, just get ClassicWB with 3.1, that works without any issues for years here. I use it on WinUAE, FS-UAE, R-Pi and also had it run of my laptop without booting into OS using amiberry and classicwb. (that laptop at the moment I am using to run batocera, and have partition dedicated to place amiga emulation as stand alone PC once I figure out how to setup grub to run 2 different linux installation on the same system without using installer for either one.

EDIT: Forgot to add that I used light version on plain A1200, and full on A1200 with Apollo 1040 card. Sadly, I rarely use real amiga due to space requirements.

There is an ‘unofficial’ CWB for 3.1.4 on one of the threads, which so far isn’t giving me any issues:
http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=94493&page=12

So far I haven’t had any issues, other than changing a couple of assignments/locations due to the installer using 2 partitions (note: I use it on real hardware).

It depends on your configuration. You may just need to upgrade some libraries, but overall, classicwb is fine.

So what if ClassicWB hasn't been updated? Sometimes you can't improve on the best.

The only thing I ever needed to update on ClassicWB was WHDLoad, and that was long time ago.
