Games You Wished Had Null-Modem Support
I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but I was wondering what people thought of games that'd benefit the most from having null-modem support.
Two that spring to mind are Dune II and Civilization, what does everyone else think? |

Duel Test Drive II would have been cool with a link option, and Hired Guns Wow, there's a thought. System link of Hired Guns?, damn! One can dream.

F1GP would have been amazing, The Settlers as well with 4 players would have been mental.

Any game with two players support would benefit from it, really.
If only controller data gets transmitted between the two computers, the size of that data is all enough that there would be no latency at all and no need for a master computer. Both machines would maintain the same exact game state in parallel. Of course, for that to work, the games need to be fully deterministic but most games of that era are. I would bet that this could even be an addition to WHDLoad setups: add serial link support. |

I believe there was a program that emulated a serial connection over the internet. I heard it mentioned, never tracked it down. Telser.device? Anyway, Carrier Command, and Steel Empire. :-)

It's slightly better running in ntsc. Not sure how some simple local network code would slow things down much, small packets of info.. Optimised games like lotus 2 didn't seem to slow down much.. Stunt car racer? Did that have a link?

Of course, Stunt car racer can be even linked in Amiga-ST setup.

@Predseda Cool. I missed out on that experience. Remember linking Falcon with Atari St > Amiga.. Makes me laugh that consoles make such a big deal out of it, cross-play been a thing for ages it seems :-)

F18 Interceptor.
Instantly springs to mind. Me and a mate used to play F16 Combat Pilot, but come on....F18 was just so easy to pick up. Instant fun would have been had. Even better if it had co-op missions, as well as PvP. A10 Tank Killer on PC/Mac is the closest "ease of play" Flight sim I can think of, and has a somewhat F18 feel to it. |

Not for original 500? Is that right? EDIT: Sorry is OCS as well By the time I played it on PC and Mac, I was running a Pentium, and my mates machine was the original iMac, so around the time of the G3s at a guess? We played LAN from Mac to PC which was cool. It's 1 of 2 games I ever played on a MAC lol. Last edited by 005AGIMA; 05 June 2019 at 03:00. Reason: correction |
