Lightbulb Thinking about Win10 IoT and Raspberry Pi

Been reading up a bit on Win10 IoT Core and Enterprise editions. Sounds like the Core edition only supports UWP (not win32 API) but does work on the Raspberry Pi, whereas the Enterprise edition supports the full GUI and win32 API but not the Raspberry Pi.

As much as I appreciate Amiberry on the Pi, its feature set and flexibility fall far behind that of WinUAE. I really wish it were possible to somehow get the latest WinUAE onto the Pi.

Would it be even remotely feasible to somehow port WinUAE to a UWP app that could run on Win10 IoT Core... possibly by also pulling in ARM-specific stuff from Amiberry/UAE4ALL? Or is UWP just too restrictive to support all the low-level functionality needed by WinUAE? And to what degree does WinUAE's more advanced feature set depend on Intel x86-specific code for which there's currently no ARM equivalent? Would such an endeavor even be worthwhile, or would the performance suck too hard?

No. It would mean total UI rewrite. Someone else's problem.

EDIT: and many many features depend on win32 that does not exists in UWP.

I've only read bad things about Win10 IoT on Raspberry Pi and support/development has stopped some time ago. I think if you try Win10 IoT on RPi you have your answer.

I figured as much, but thought it was worth asking anyway. Thanks.

I wanted to try out Win10 IoT on my RPi3, but despite several attempts I could never get it to even boot.. The tool to format and prepare the SD card verified and said it was good, but no luck.

Install NOOBS (only for testing) on a mircoSD or download NOOBS image. If I remember right you can select Win10 IoT to install when the RPi is connected via (W)LAN. Installation should be completely automatic.

Did you tried this:? https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...core/downloads

I tried Noobs once when I got the RPi3 but did not see Win10 as a choice, but this was a while ago so perhaps that was added since.

I didn't bother to spend much time digging into it since many people wrote that it was too slow and not very usable anyway so I just went with a Linux instead.

Yes, maybe I'm wrong with NOOBS and Win10 IoT. I wouldn't wast a minute with RPi and Win.
