Amiga 500 internal IDE controller

Can anyone help me? I am looking for an internal IDE interface for the Amiga 500 or 500+, it would also be nice to get a accelerator on the same board, does anyone have one for sale?

Tired of how much room a side expansion take up on your A500 eh?

An A500 with a side expansion accelerator/HD + SCSI cd-rom, extra powerbricks for the above occupies a whole office table

There are only two accelerators with IDE, Viper 520 and Viper 530 (and their other names) and both are rare and hence expensive.

GVP HD8+ Impact II was the most successful A500 hard drive, there are LOTS of them, hence cheap, no accelerator but they do have 8Mbytes of Fast RAM.

I have the A530 as well as the Series II GVP and the Commodore A570 and A590, oh yea, the Rocktec external unit and the XP something (Forgotten its proper name) that allows me to have a HDD on whilst using the A570.

The problem I have is that all of the add on units are mint and boxed, so nice that I really don't want to use them in case the start doing the usual yellow thing hence why I want to go internal, the price isn't too much of a worry as I will only by one once.

I do! that’s why I want an alternative, some things are best kept and in the case of the plug-in’s I have for my A500's, many of them are hard to find in such good condition, if it was such a problem that I couldn’t get a viper or something, I can always use my PC which is far more practical (WinUEA), also I do not care if the PC goes yellow, it already is

What’s the point of damaging something when you have an alternative?

The phrase that comes to mind rhymes with "duck boff".

Collectors... raise prices and lower the tone of the whole scene

Amiga equipment will never be "antiques" of the future they just made too many of them.

I resent that.. I'm a collector... Well, a collector of sorts... I DO however use all my stuff.. I don't see the point in having something sit on a shelf where it'll probably die without ever having good use...

Just keep things dry, in the shade and keep them quite cool and there won't be any yellowing...

Cheers on the advice on the prevention of turning the plastic yellow, yes I do use the equipment as well, hence why all my old files are backed up on multiple HDD's for the A500, but a lot of people seem to me missing the point, I don’t want to people arguing about what I can or can't use, that’s up to me.

I just want to add one more bit of Amiga to my collection hence why I came to the collection of people who also share a common interest.

Cheers for your help

Here's a list of the ICD stuff with part numbers/info if you ever come across any. They're all pretty damn rare

But why do you collect it? It's not as if this stuff is rare or anything nor will it make you rich? I can't for the life of me understand why people collect this sh*t. It's a computer, not gold?

Eventually it is going to die, nothing you can do can stop that, packing it away and not using it waiting for it to die just doesn't make sense!

Cheers on the link, gives me something to hunt for, greatly appreciated, thanks!
as for collecting, to collect just for value is wrong, there are collectors who collect traffic cones, postcards, bricks even travel sickness bags, there is no money in that, its just what they want to do. Collecting is something to be enjoyed not something to be thought of as making money out of, I tried that, I started making twice my wages by turning my reel to reel collection into buying and selling, that’s when collecting became a business, that’s when I stopped selling. Just remember I DO use it, I am just looking for something else.

It's not a computer - tis an Amiga

I've often asked myself why I have 4 Amiga's and it's ultimetly because they remind me of years long gone where computing was fun. To collect them is to love them and to love them is to sleep with them

Hang on that didn't sound right at all!

Think of it another way - would you rather the Amiga's get scrapped and crushed or lovingly kept in a collection where they will be appreciated and cared for/used?

Well Amiga does mean "female friend" in Spanish... so I think I know what you're getting at!

So you won't understand why people are collecting unused phone cards either, will you?
From the argument "they're made for use" it would be quite the same.
