That would be great.
I have a Radeon 9200 bought a few months ago and before buying it I didn't know that warp3d wasn't available for it. I've been able to use wazp3d but I think that its compatibility with warp3d games is quite limited... |

Maybe cos it's really hard and will take days of someone's time? I've heard the underlying chipset is difficult to program. If there was some financial incentive then you are more likely to get some progress (and not by me - it's way beyond my skills).

Is this regarding 68k or PPC? How fast is the voodoo in 3d on the 68k? I mean, is a Warp3D Radeon driver for 68k even fast enough to be of use?

I think the other reason is not really performance but the Radeon 9200 is cheaper and more available than Voodoos. And since it hasn't been done yet, people can imagine that it will be a lot faster than it actually is.

I keep wondering if someone is going to do this, for me the problem is that Voodoo 3+ are expensive, and I'd like to keep my DVI out for my Radeon, plus I can use the memory as system memory. But at least hardware acceleration on the Radeon (which in theory should be faster than a Voodoo 5 since they're much newer cards) would be faster than software rendering, right?

Do a speed test on OS4.1 classic with a Voodoo3/4/5 and also with a Radeon 9200.
I see that 3DMark 2000 for example place them within 10% from each other (with the Radeon winning). Voodoo3 is about 70% of the score of a Radeon 9200. Not sure how much the CPU comes into play to push data to the GPU in these cases. |

I would also expect it's more about availability, though even a little speed boost is welcome. Warp3D on 68k is just about enough for games like Descent: Freespace to be playable. An extra couple of FPS there would be most welcome.
However, thinking that a 3D driver would only take days to code is pretty naïve. It's a far bigger task than it might initially appear, which is probably why it hasn't happened before now. It also requires some very specific knowledge of the Warp3D driver system - some people might be competent coders, but have never written a driver before, and that would add a lot of extra time onto the process - time that's in very short supply for most users. |

I thought I read at one point that large chunks of the driver for OS4 is from the Linux drivers, not sure if that is true or not, but that would mean large chunks of it are open source, also probably some gpl violations going on. I might be thinking of AROS or MorphOS though. Thought one of them was based on the Linux driver.

Is it possible to port os4.1 radeon 9200 warp3d driver without source? With patch or something?
Or from open source version of linux, windows or macos? http://www.warp3d.net/linux Last edited by starship; 14 March 2019 at 15:01. |

That's something different, just coincidence of names. This Linux/Windows/MacOS Warp3D is for simulation of large parts mainly made of metal for engineering and quality.

So only need os4.1 radeon source or os3.1 voodoo source. But it is very hard

That's a link to a part of the Warp3D dev kit. Not sure what you mean by that.
I am very sure if the (political) will was there, a driver would be done in no time. |
