Amiga 2000 Startup querk

I'm not really sure where to post this querk, but here goes.

I've owned my trusty Amiga 2000 with Kickstart 3.1 for over 20 years. It's always done this one strange thing (or maybe it's completely normal)

When I turn on the power, the machine will sometimes boot right into Workbench with no issues from the HD.

Sometimes, when I power cycle the machine, it will stall and just sits there and not boot into Workbench from the hard disk. If I then press A, A and Del once, or a couple of times...it goes and boots in to workbench just fine.

The machine over the years has seen a complete swap out of accelerator, video card, and HD controller. And still does the same thing, so my guess is the possibility of something going on with the motherboard.

The machine works fine otherwise. Any ideas?

Which type of hard disk controller and hard disk do you have? It could be that the HD takes a while to spin up and respond to commands. If it doesn't respond quickly enough your HD controller ROM could give up trying to access it. Resetting means the HD controller ROM tries to access it again, by which time the drive is spun up and ready.

Is there a way to adjust the delay?

Not without reverse engineering your SCSI controller's firmware.

Did you swap everything but the hard disk?

Ok, doesn't sound like the HD's slowness would be a problem here. That problem was more related to Commodore's IDE SCSI device and the A600/A1200/4000.

The controller was swapped out twice. Both SCSI.

Question Setpatch

What does your setpatch instruction show, or what OS version are you using?

I'll have to check the current file. I've also trying to put a small delay there. Nothing. Same results.
