Is this Normal cpu usage?
Ruuning with an Intel 2.8gHz cpu with WinUAE.
Usage wb3.0 with no jit, fpu or other tweaks, unless listed below. a1200 as standard 2mb mem a1200 as standard 2mb mem with 30+mb zmem a1200 as standard 2mb mem with 30+mb rtf mem Also tried running with fullscreen or windowed modes approx 800x600 no difference. All combinations use 50% cpu using 1 or 2 affinity. I'm wondering if 50% cpu usage is correct, it seems high to me. |

WinUAE always uses all CPU power if in fastest possible modes (50% in your case because you have 2 CPUs)
Adjust "CPU Idle"-setting and/or search |

Thanks Toni for explanation, standard a1200 stock. Is not what i call fastest possible mode, more like slowest a1200 mode. So why it starts off with cpu so high. In standard a1200 mode with no extra mem or other tweaks added.
Will look for CPU idle in WinUAE (i'll find it) or search for it (in configs possibly). To see if difference will be made, for lower cpu use. |

"fastest possible" = cpu configuration setting.. (=use all host CPU power available)

Toni i have this set now at full (far right) and the pc cpu drops tp 20%. I can now test again other configurations, now i have the cpu to a lower level than max.
I'll play with it some more for frame rate in games to get a 'cpu idle' level for both WBench and for game play. So far for WBench i'm am very happy to work in a quiter enviroment. With lower cpu levels, and cpu heat between 33% to 39% (cpu load dependant). Pc 'idle' (No cpu load) heat is 23 to 25deg with fan controller active). Now having a quieter working pc, i notice the psu back fan is noisy. I'll solder ina new fan, pointless buying a new psu for that, psu load voltages are ok. |

Update.
I have added a cpu cooler controller since for when needed, such as game playing. I then set the cpu slider back to nomal and turn down the cpu fan. Its a juggling action to get it correct, so not to overheat or stress the cpu. I didn't buy a controller that shows the heat and cpu fan speeds, i do this with motherboard software. I think i should have done now, just for easy convience to monitor when playing games. Though how much would i really look at it, compared to looking at the game action on screen. Some pentium4 boards have no quiet cpu controller for the noisy fans. Such as northwood cpu's. I could buy another new board, but all i see is 3 pci variants. Someday i will find a new board that has 5 pci and quiet cpu feature in the bios. Ich6 or a well equiped ich5 intel chipset based board would suit me fine. Maybe look again at ebay someday, then maybe not. Last edited by exoticaga; 19 February 2008 at 05:31. |
