Gyruss would be excellent stereo and single button, Mr Do would be another good proper port, looking forward to testing Phoenix

That said ... The game uses one single Z80, sprites & tiles are rippable with MAME, game ROM size is 24k which is bigger than Donkey Kong or Moon Patrol by 8k, but okay, putting in my maybe list.

better: playable version in the zone. No sounds, but otherwise works despite some minor issues.

the sound in Phoenix doesn't work well in Mame until version 0.106 around (2006)
this is strange because most 80's arcades in Mame worked 100% since the years 2000-2001 or even before those years

I'm still wondering how to render the sound. Some sounds are continuous like sirens or such, which make them difficult to render with samples, even looped.

Plus the music really sucks (soundtrack from "Jeux Interdits" and "Für Elise" when you beat the boss... Nothing really exciting.

updated with bugfixes. Plus the shield is now working on second button, and possible to insert coin with fire + up/down

2P mode not working!

Hello Jotd, I tested for now the wip updated only on WinUAE and I noticed that the barrier actives itself randomly.
Second button doesn't seem to have the barrier function.

WinUAE is configured to emulate a CD32 pad via my xbox compatible controller.

I don't know if this is just known,
I'm very happy to test this first wip of my favourite eightees arcade game.

For the rest I didn't see gfx or other bugs.
I think the conversion is already on the right track, I will patiently wait for the final itch.io release

Ah it activates on joystick down. And was not enabled in previous WIP for button 2.

Starting on the sound, which is quite a challenge to make it simple and efficient.

Today I tested the udpated wip on real hardware: A1200 + Blizzard 1230mkIV and I confirm the randomly shield bug, even if I don't press the second button or if I don't move the shield randomly appears.

But the game works properly, I reached the second polyp and no bugs encountered.

Wih sound it will be another perfect conversion

The boss level and phoenix background would be treated as songs, is the best way imo;
instead the birds attack wave could be a loop but, since has a different pitch according to the number of birds attacking, could be made with more loops to avoid pitch warping
