wanted - ZOOL sprites!
don't know if this is the right place to ask, but i wondered if anyone had the time spare to rip as many sprites and background graphics from the ZOOL series of amiga games as is possible?
basically i was going to work on a little GBA remake / conversion of this great game and i'm tired of print screening from the emulator! cheers! Last edited by CHiEF; 22 January 2004 at 11:46. |

The AGA version you'll need something like the BPL Ripper, can be a pain in the arse but is possible. Just hope memory isn't wiped on reset or is not over written.
You can use a program that came with ProWizard to copy chip mem to fast memory, then copy it back from fast memory to the top megabyte of chip. This will conserve the colours as well. Otherwise use the Action Replay 3 on the ECS version. Not difficult to do. I don't have the game, but good luck. Last edited by khephren; 22 January 2004 at 12:23. |

LOL!
no i seriously doubt they'll be in a format you can just lift off the CD. ILBM files were rarely used in games, they were converted to a different format. |

yeah i agree!
but i think it was in cannon fodder cd32 version that you could access all the sprites/graphics (must check this out, but i'm pretty sure you could) |

I recall someone on this board works for the company that have bought the rights to Zool and that they were sitting 3 feet away from the source code?
Maybe they could help... |

If you play the AGA version under the emulator, you can always just screen shot all the graphics.
Looking at some pictures on the web, it's not difficult to work out the tiles. Just remember that the graphics will be either 8,16,32 or 64 pixels wide. The animation would be a bigger pain in the arse but it's possible. |

I made a Bitmap grabber utility with which I had quite some success in ripping graphics from different games. It supports AGA stuff, altough Palette searching only works for ECS stuff.
I am gonna put it in the zone - there is a readme file inside which explains a bit of how to do the ripping - you NEED some knowledge on how the bitmaps/sprites are stored in amiga memory ! btw. would be nice if the utility was put in the EAB essential utils section ? Don't have a site for it anywhere... |

This is what I am using, problem is the WinUAE save-states seem to have changed and no data is in them or they are now compressed
I have had to use an older version of WinUAE to get a proper save-state, only problem I have now is actually getting the sprites to look right!!! Still if anyone wants the save-state gimme a shout |

However, Toni has only partly compressed the files. I think he can tell you more about this matter, and maybe too how to get some data out of them. (The 'housewife trick' of simply renaming it to *.Z|*.GZ|*.ZIP and unpacking it with your fav archiving util does NOT work btw ) |

I tought you can select whether you want to compress them or not ? It was like that in one of the previous versions - if I remember correctly.
