Heya MarkG,

Welcome to EAB

Wow, never heard of this game before... Looks quite cool, like a Q-Bert clone

thanks, yep started using my old amiga 1200 for first time in over a decade, and been going through all the old games, was fun playing this one again, managed to get to level 11 with a score of just over 104,000 not bad as its been so long since played it.

it is a little like q-bert, but lots of different layouts, can also play it in dual mode with a friend for faster level completion, plus the baddies dont instantly kill you on contact, just drain some of your energy

also that title tune, is so nice, i find myself humming it to myself hours after playing it, one of those stick in your head melodies

Hmmm, there seems to be 2 different versions of the game:

1st version (1989):

a) "System-4 - Mister Tengus Adventure (1989)(CompuTec Verlag)(DE)(en)[h Powerslaves][Amiga Fun].adf" [CRC 361D3D27]
b) "Megadeth Disk - 5 Games (1989)(-)[KS 1.2].adf" [CRC 0796AA8A]

- By "Pegasus Software".
- Power doesn't decrease automatically when moving around.
- Don't seem to be able to kill enemies, you bump off them and loose energy.
- Only one life.
- Can not jump by pressing <fire>.
- No countdown.
- HOL shows this version: http://hol.abime.net/3948

2nd version (1990):

c) "Amiga Fun #01 (1990-10)(MC Publications)(GB)[cr Abakus][t +1 Olmecs][System-4 - Mister Tengus Adventure, Nov 1990].adf" [CRC 16AF73DF]
d) "Amiga Fun (199x)(CompuTec Verlag)(DE)[a][System 4 & Casino 3000].adf" [CRC F941E651]
e) "Amiga Fun (199x)(CompuTec Verlag)(DE)[System 4 & Casino 3000].adf" [CRC D8D658B4]
f) "AmigaFun1_GB_CrazySue_System4_NecronomDemo_FlightOfDreamsII_Utils.adf" [CRC 50DED42C]
g) "PD Games Volume 026 (199x)(The Assassins)(PD).adf" [CRC 5F7732FA]
h) "Pack Game #2 (1990)(Supplex).adf" [CRC AC09FC9A]

- By "Double Density".
- Different music to the 1st version.
- Different stage 1 to the 1st version (haven't checked other levels).
- Power decreases automatically when moving around.
- Able to kill enemies.
- Three lives.
- Can jump by pressing <fire>.
- Has countdown.

Not sure which version i have, looks like 2nd screenshot , the floppy disk is in a box in attic with thousands of others, all i have is the powerpacked executable file with the name game, and iconx script that i added with run500 game degrade nocaches, which seems to work on my 030 32MB fast ram expanded 1200, the graphics sometimes glitch slightly, but not enough to crash it or spoil the gameplay.

powerpacked exe is 148,920 in size if that helps

You probably have the 2nd version; this one is most common...

You can tell by the title screen (and everything else I've listed in post #4). The title screen says "(c)1989 Double Density".

The 1st version seems more rare... The title screen says "(c)1989 Pegasus Software".

Regarding the 1st version (1989):
I can't tell the size of the file as everything is hidden. It's not an NDOS disk but can't see anything; looks like the disk is blank which it clearly isn't...

Regarding the 2nd version (1990):
The size of the file "1" on "Amiga Fun (199x)(CompuTec Verlag)(DE)[System 4 & Casino 3000].adf" is 191504.

The size of the file "tengus2" on "Amiga Fun #01 (1990-10)(MC Publications)(GB)[cr Abakus][t +1 Olmecs][System-4 - Mister Tengus Adventure, Nov 1990].adf" is 164080.

Would you mind popping the file you have in The Zone! for me to take a look at?

To access The Zone! see here. You can upload the file by clicking on "The Zone!"; 2nd from the right EAB menus.

I found 3 non TOSEC versions in the UnRenamed collection.
Idk if they're of interest but I have zoned them just in case.

Thank you kindly Retroplay

Unfortunately they are all the 2nd version...

With the only disk that contains the 1st version I can't see any files so am unable to get the game off the disk

the 2nd version is probably the best version anyway, as it seems from your hexdump the 1st one is a preview version, probably unfinished with less levels and certain final features

Firstly apologies to MarkG for hijacking this WHDLoad request thread...

Anyway, I've now created an .ADF that contains both:

... the "1989 preview" version.
... the "1990 release" version.

Many, many thanks must go to musashi9 @ Flashtro for ripping the preview version file off the trackloading disk

Thanks for pointing my eyes toward this game I didn't know, its like a mix of Q-Bert and Crystal Castles/Clown-O-Mania. Nice!

Thanks Damien for the investigative work too

thanks for the look at other version, i think the released 2nd version is much better, version 1 has awful title music, no other music ingame, while the main character is easy to move in version 1, i think i prefer the energy and 3 lives you get in 2nd version, with the energy/power counting down all the time its more challenging to finish the level as quick as possible.

having background music & soundfx in version 2 also make it much more enjoyable to play

I hear what you're saying

...but the whole reason why I wanted to create this disk is so that you can see all variations of the game.

Both are quite cool in their own way and it's great to be able to choose from either very easily IMHO

yes, nice work on the disk, hopefully someone can make it whdloadified (lol is that the term) it might only take a few seconds to reboot the amiga, but its nice to be able to quit out of games and load another without a reboot of amiga, plus the highscore saving

Yeah, that would be cool if a WHDLoad version could be made.

There was some discussion about it long ago, see this thread: [Found: System-4 - Mister Tengus Adventure] Can't remember the name

Been playing this today; cool little game

I've finished the '1989 Preview' version; it only has 6 levels...

HOL needs to update the page for this. All screenshots / information is taken from the '1989 Preview' version and not the '1990 Release' version. I'll start a new thread an point here.

Also, sadly it looks like I might need to redo the disk. With the '1990 Release' version it's impossible to finish level 5. There were blocks I couldn't get to

I used the file off this disk:

e) "Amiga Fun (199x)(CompuTec Verlag)(DE)[System 4 & Casino 3000].adf" [CRC D8D658B4]

Need to test the others to see if they are ok; one has to be as MarkG got to level 11:

c) "Amiga Fun #01 (1990-10)(MC Publications)(GB)[cr Abakus][t +1 Olmecs][System-4 - Mister Tengus Adventure, Nov 1990].adf" [CRC 16AF73DF]
d) "Amiga Fun (199x)(CompuTec Verlag)(DE)[a][System 4 & Casino 3000].adf" [CRC F941E651]
f) "AmigaFun1_GB_CrazySue_System4_NecronomDemo_FlightOfDreamsII_Utils.adf" [CRC 50DED42C]
g) "PD Games Volume 026 (199x)(The Assassins)(PD).adf" [CRC 5F7732FA]
h) "Pack Game #2 (1990)(Supplex).adf" [CRC AC09FC9A]
