Anyone else read this great mag?

Yep, bought it from day one and finally took out a subscription. They said nice things about a game I wrote once too.

They did great retro inspection on A1200,A500,CD32.Just waiting for CDTV inspection now *fingers crossed

Yep, I've been subscribed for ages. it's great that they're managing to find so much to write about - I was worried they'd run out of steam, but it keeps getting better!

I buy Retro Gamer occasionally when it features a machine or game I am interested in. In the early days of the magazine this was nearly every month, but since Imagine Publishing took over, the content has interested me somwhat less and, of course, they dropped the cover disk!

I also read its sister magazine Total PC Gaming occasionally too.

I think the cover cd/dvd is useless, cause you can download everything nowdays..

Well, plasmatron, I've got other things to do online than download everything, so I appreciate the occasional coverdisk. Sometimes such coverdisks are indeed useless, and where that is the case I wouldn't buy them unless the magazines were otherwise worth it.

What do other users think?

First of all I never saw this magazine, but speaking about cover disks/CDs/DVDs there are several reasons why I would buy a magazine with one. Main reason would be a full version I want to get or some collection of freeware/shareware tools for a specific task (sample editing, disk management etc.). It's always nice to search through the contents of a CD/DVD instead of downloading everything. Given the price isn't much higher I would go for the coverdisk version.

I just became a subscriber to Retr0 Gamer, got my first subs through yesterday (christmas eve)

Awesome "Battle Zone" me and my bro used to go to a place called 'Edds Cafe' and play this machine ALL DAY... awww what fun.. a great read out on Myst and few others, up and till now, I have been an occasional purchaser, I think I bought 6 this year and decided Hell i know what I want for my Birthday

I don't read magazines anymore. Internet is a best way to find infos about games, both old and new.

That surely depends on how you look at it. I would rather have my magazine stolen whilst travelling by train, than my laptop with mobile internet connection.

The second DVD is out now Oh and it has a workbench type menu

I've not been into the later magazines that much if I'm honest - I think the quality has gone downhill a bit - a lot of pages are devoted to new games - what the hell?. Hardly no Amiga stuff in it anymore although they do have the occasional interesting bits and bobs. Hmm time to subscribe to razzle!

Z, that little spark of reminiscing is exactly the reason why I like Retro Gamer - there'll be little things that'll set off memories of a happy holiday, or times with mates, or whatever...

I like that they cover more modern stuff, particularly the homebrew stuff. This month? Homebrew Pacman for the Vic 20 - fantastic stuff

hi everyone, Im looking into which retro gamers do and don't buy the magazine and would be interested in your feedback.

If you don't buy Retro Gamer, what is it that you'd want to see each month to make you purchase it. If you do buy the mag, what do you like/dislike about it.

I'm trying to work more closely with the bigger communities so any help you can give will be grreatly appreciated.

Its all your fault. I read it for pleasure and as a professional interest. I am an historian and retro gamer who is hopefully bringing both hobby and work into a fabulous marriage - or horrible nasty nightmare

I stopped buying retrogamer a long time ago, the bias towards the speccy just made me sick to my stomach. If you didnt grow up in the UK or eastern europe there is no nostalgia for this machine and you can see it for what it really was.... absolute crap compared to the alternatives at the time.

I've been really quite impressed TBH nice clear articles, well written by people who obviously enjoy their work and know a bit about their subject matter.
Nice high quality layouts and paper, overall its a good mag.

I may even subscribe at some point.

yes it was crap and it still is crap, but if it was all you had you loved it, you hugged it and you called it George.
poor machines still make good games - look at the Wii
