AD3D and AB3D2
Hi all,
1st post time, can anyone tell me how AB3D and AB3D2 run on an A1200 with a 1260 and 32mb ram? thanks in advance, JuvUK |

Welcome to the board!
AB3D runs as smooth as silk, AB3D2 runs at a good speed, but still not as fast as perhaps it should given the processing power of a 68060. Doom and Doom II run faster than AB3D2 on an 060. Steve. |

Testament is pretty nippy on an '040 so I'd imagine it'd run very nicely on a faster machine. Don't like it much though.

I remember I was not able to play AB3D1 on A1200 with 060... AB3D2 ran nice, but take care, this game is really DIFFICULT!!!
BTW, Breathless and DoomAttack were faster 'cause they were optimized. I don't remember about Testament... it worked fine on my old 030 so I never played it again. |

Testament just ... well... not-good-enough for a collector. Playability bad, gfx bad, and overall it's quite boring.
Breathless goes well enough to finish it off, although I think Doom has a more complex engine but still it's faster than Breathless, which is weird a bit. AB3D simply rocks. Like Lotus II in the racing games. Fast, smooth, well playable, etc. A masterpiece AB3DII was less professional, although still worth to try it at least. It has an RTG patch, but never worked for me somehow. |

I remember buying AB3D2 from eBay and giving it a go on my A4060. It ran ok but I thought it was so crap I had to sell it again immediately - didn't want it in the house
The original AB3D is nice. Especially from a coders point of view as it uses nice rasters for the display |

I'll echo what the others have said.
AB3D runs very well on 030+ so it will fly on your 060. It's an awesomely good game and one of my favourites. AB3D2 is a bit clunky on 060 and way too hard for me. I played through AB3D many times, but lost interest in AB3D2 very quickly. Breathless is better, but the engine is a bit simple and rooms start to feel very samey after a while. Try it, YMMV. Doom is very good on 060 and a classic game as well. You can use many (all?) of the expansion levels created for the PC version. Do yourself a favour and pick up a Doom collection on eBay or something. I believe Genetic Species is highly recommended too, if you like the FPS genre. Haven't played Testament. |

For anybody playing AB3D2, I highly recommend using the saved game editor on Aminet. You can cheat as little or as much as you want, by giving yourself extra weapons, extra health or just extra ammo. The game's too difficult otherwise. It works with the WHDLoad version too.

Sad but true!!! AB3D, Fears, Testament, Trapped... to gain some frame per second you have to lower the resolution
