Yeah I know it is... but

A) I want to do my own game and
B) I couldn't sell it (not that I do this for money anyway) and
C) Sega would probably come after my ass

Mind you... I wouldn't be as bad as JoJo... with The Zing or Brus Li...

I mean...what sort of crazy guy comes up with stuff like that.

Sega is quite permissive with fan work on their games

Not only that; look at their website: https://www.sega.com/

Loads of stuff about Sonic and other stuff etc. but nothing about old classics like Shinobi / Golden Axe / Altered Beast etc... don't think they care about these anymore.

No need to do that; just create like you did with Rygar

You never get a licence for an Amiga port from Sega. Not a chance. This may work for games where the original programmer got the rights, but not from a major.

No harm in trying though, they can only say no or nothing at all.

Tecmo said no to Rygar.

I told you that month ago.

Sure, you can try. But a commercial licence? If you would ask for a free Amiga distribution licence only, it "could" work. Depends on the mood of the person in charge i guess.

It wasnt the fact they said no that surprised me.

What really got me was that despite requesting a few times they couldn’t give me any explanation as to why, so i put it down to them not even having give me an explanation.

Ermh, who exactly did you asked? I mean Tecmo merged with Koei in 2011. I would suppose here:

https://www.koeitecmoeurope.com/

or here:

https://www.koeitecmo.co.jp/

This looks to me like the person that write you NO, didn't wanted to be bored and check, so he chooses "no" as a safest answer.
I might be wrong, thou.

Anyway, we are eagerly waiting for Shinobi

Just looking at this.
Man, that MsDos PC version looks terrible.

I remember playing it on my C64, it was pretty good.

I think you are right, basically the webform that is used goes through to their customer service dept... I suspect it was just easier for them to say no.

My heart tells me that with their merger of Koei they no longer have the rights to their Tehkan, Tecmo productions but I'm probably wrong and should think with my head. It's done now anyway which is kinda the reason why I'm set on doing my own game.

And on the subject of that I'm looking to work with a GFX artist... i'd prefer this route if I can but will license some graphics if I need to.

Feel free to PM if interested.

Never seen the MS-DOS version before, and ... It's a joke ! Even the ZX Spectrum version has better gfx with far far less colours !
