This looks really good, though my experiences with C64 emulation on Linux haven't been very promising so far. I'm using Vice and have found it to be very hit or miss. Are there any better alternatives out there?

I don't think you'll find a better one than Vice these days, but there is Frodo and iIrc there is a linux version of the very promising Micro64 as well.
btw: I guess turning on True Drive Emulation in Vice will make most of the programs work if it doesn't load. Last edited by Cpt. Hindsight; 02 May 2015 at 19:16. |

Thanks for the tips. Just checked and true drive emulation is checked by default in Vice so it's not that.
Micro64 looks really promising once you know that F9 brings up the options menu and the default in-game controls use the numpad (there's no documentation). I hope development continues on this project. |

Good attention to detail, like how the kid/guy(?) looks down when you start to fall, how you do a short slide when you turn around at top speed and the changes in expression on the face during different actions. Also love how the game moves really fast but still has proper movement speed-up and no excessive inertia.
Its those little details that make this so much more than just another platformer. |

Looks awesome, can't wait to play the final someday.
I haven't actually switched on my real Amiga and C64's for many months now, i think my PS message will explain that lol. But i am seriously planning a huge Amiga and C64 marathon soon to catch up on all these latest releases, like Bruce Lee 2(as Bruce Lee 1 is one on my all time fave games and i have clocked it many times over), i also want to play that Ultima remake as it looks awesome as well! As always, thanks Neil for all the latest updates on the Amiga and C64 scene, i may not play them much lately, but always love reading about the latest stuff! PS: Sorry for my absence from EAB in recent months, i guess the blame could be that i have recently gotten a girlfriend since January after a very long dry spell of being single, but i will never forget EAB and the awesome community here! |

And? It's a game from Knights of Bytes. They've made Metal Dust, Ice Guys, Bomb Mania released via Protovision. This is real, no joke.

Looks like a very nice game. They have made good use of the colour palette.
Comparing the colours though it seems its slightly different, im assuming how it was captured. Can anyone enlighten me why some pixels are chunkier than others. If you have a look at this image, the diamonds are two pixels width stepping but some of the green grass hills are 1 pixel. Is it an intentional design reason and or technical one. |

It's a technical limitation of the C64. Its multi-color modes use pairs of adjacent pixels to get two bits of color per pixel, and so you get more colors at no extra memory cost, but only half the horizontal resolution.

In the character-based multicolour mode this can be toggled on a char by char basis via the colour RAM, so some characters are using 2:1 ratio pixels which makes them 4 by 8 in total (two bits per pixel essentially) whilst others are 1:1 ratio and 8 by 8 pixels. This is fairly common in C64 games with titles like the Turrican series, Enforcer or Mayhem In Monsterland using it extensively - have a look at those games for the background parallax, most of that is 1:1 ratio pixels.

Also lol, no she doesn't stop me at all, the problem is she keeps me to 'busy' with other hobbies lately! I still check in here often, but just don't post much anymore but hopefully that will change soon once i get more spare time, as this site is awesome and always rekindles my past life experiences! |
