56k PC modem cable = null modem cable for amiga\PC?

I'm looking for a null modem cable to connect my A500 to the PC... my old 56k external modem has a similar cable - it has a 9-pin female connector on one end and a 25-pin male connector on the other. I've been told that this is perfectly suitable for what I want to do.... Is that right? (I don't have much experience and don't want to fry my A500 by accident...thanx!!)

A serial cable is not a null modem cable. You'll either need to buy a null modem cable or a null modem adaptor which will convert your standard serial cable into a null modem cable.

Buy the adapter. It will work sufficiently. It has worked well for me.

We are talking about serial cables not parallel cables.

..ok. I guess I'll avoid using this cable and find a proper one.

Having the modem cable already, there is an alternative to buying a nullmodem cable: get a nullmodem adaptor, this is a doohickie that consists entirely of a female connector on one side and a male on the other (i.e. no actual cable between them), and that internally connects the appropriate pin over to the appropriate other pin on the other connector. Effectively it turns a regular modem cable into a nullmodem cable.
