Apollo 1260 setup problem
Hi Guys,
I have an Apollo 1260 which I had upgraded from 1240. The board was tested and confirmed as working no probs by the gent who upgraded it but i can't get it to work and I'm wondering is it a software thing, wrong libraries etc, I wouldn't be very knowledgeable on this so I'm looking for a bit of guidance! I'm using my A1200, ClassicWB 3.9 with a heavy duty PSU so power isn't a problem. When I boot with the apollo I get a flashing power LED followed by a software failure message, same thing happens in WinUAE if I use same settings, same HD via CF adapter so that's why I'm figuring it's a software issue. I've heard of apollo installation disks etc (can't find it) so I know there's something I'm missing I just don't know what. Help, it's doing my head in!! Thanks |

Here's the drivers:
http://www.l8r.net/install/accel/apollo060.DMS Simple install is to copy 68060 libs to 'libs' and CPU060 to C: There is a command (can't remember off the top of my head) to add to your Startup Sequence that improves performance, but the above at least will get you up and running A little search will bring up a plethora of Apollo bases support threads! |

Thanks a lot fitzsteve, i'll give it a go later on and see how it goes! Out of curiosity, would the whole power LED/software failure message be the normal thing to happen if you haven't installed the correct driver, I'm just hoping the problem is as simple as what you've said, fingers crossed!

Libs should be installed before you connect the Apollo, you might be able to boot from a Workbench Floppy with the Apollo installed. |

the crashing is due to to the 68040.library in libs drawer.if you delete it the machine will boot fine from harddisk(the classic install drops into libs when installing fom floppy(its on the install disk))
if you boot the machine with the card in place with the install disk it will do exactly the same thing.(power led flashing and crashing) |

Went ahead and deleted the 68040.libs, other files were in place (Libs and C) from ClassicWB 3.9, booted up and it worked away...for a bit, didn't get a chance to load games just check sys info to verify 68060, then it all went wrong! Workbench crashed then refused to boot, CF card is now unusable, refuses to be recognised in WinUAE or Amiga, can't partition using my 3.1 install disk. Have a spare CF, gonna install a basic OS3.5 from CD and using the files supplied by you guys try and get it going again.....
Edit: By files supplied I mean Apollo installation disk! Last edited by Reido; 11 May 2013 at 22:10. |

did you add anything to your startup sequence?
like C:CPU B youll have to do that without the card i guess. |

Your CF card is most likely not broken. Use Diskpart in Windows to clean all partition information, then you should be able to partition it inside WinUAE again.
Also, your Apollo 060 needs both the 68060.library AND the replacement for the 68040.library. The standard 040 lib loaded when Workbench boots is not aware of your 060 and 060 lib. This is fixed by using the 040 replacement lib whose only job is to load the 060 lib, giving you a working computer. |

What does "does not recognize" mean? WinUAE not recognizing it is totally different thing than emulated Amiga not recognizing it.

Thanks for the info guys.
Haven't added anything to C, CPU060 was there, haven't heard of CPU B (I really feel out of my depth now!) I didn't realise there was a replacement for 68040.lib I just deleted the whole thing. "Does not recognise" was a poor choice of words sorry, No HD appeared on WB screen on loading install3.1 disk and when I tried to partition the CF I got the "Error has occured sorry could not partition drive" message.... Look it's obvious I'm a complete amateur, I just kinda hoped that the card would work with minimum fuss, obviously not! I have WB 3.5 installed now, does anybody know what files are essential for allowing me to use the Apollo 060 with this configuration? Thanks in advance! |

you need all the files from the install disk that are in libs: and c:
rename the 68040.library in libs on your 3.5 install to 68040.library-old and then copy over the files from libs on the floppy. then copy over the cpu060 command to c: on the 3.5 install. then edit your startup sequence and add CPU060 B before setpatch. |

i only can give you a link to a manual for that card. CPU60 options listed there. should help a bit.
--> new link to the manual (archive.org) edit startup-sequence: open a DOS/CLI/SHELL window (icon should be in System subfolder of your boot disk / hdd) type: ed s:startup-sequence scroll to the line starting with: setpatch after that line insert: c:cpu60 B page 5 of the manual describes this too. then just save and reboot. Edit: the install disk got no icons, it loads workbench, but then no icons. since there is an installer on disk. bit weird for unskilled user Last edited by emufan; 27 February 2018 at 13:24. |

Unskilled user is right!! Thanks for that info, i'll try it out later. One thing i'm curious about, I can't run an installer from the apollo 060 disk (the file is called apollo-install5.0) it says I need at least a stack of 20000 (eh?), but if you manually copy all the necessary files like Roy mentioned above is it all the same thing, you're not going to miss out on anything?

thats the trouble i mentioned above. in this "icon-mode" the workbench just lists all files, with, let me say "pseudo-icons".
with a dedicated program/project icon, such stack issues would not appear. right now the installer does not work as a new user you should expect one install icon, and not a whole list of confusing things. maybe the disk was altered back ion the days, cannot say. btw. someone (D-Dan) on amiga org talks about using the MMUlib from aminet - instead of the apollo libs. but you need at least a stable workbench to uncompress and install this thing. |

its in the zone, installer does now start, but stops here, with "no apollo hardware".
a third icon - the "ApolloVersion" should output apollo infos ( no hardware cannot test). i only added the icons, and inserted on loine in "apolloversion" script. disk should also boot like the original. edit: the zone you must join first. after joining the group "zone" you find a new icon next to the logout "button", you see the diskimage "apollo060-fix.dms" on top of list. its just a temp place for tiny files, holds data for 21 days only. more on the ftp server. edit: problem with joining the zone ? try again, just some clicks. but disk now also attached here. Edit: i fixed all icons now, reget the diskimage from zone or here (v60.02 in apollo060-fix.lha) #1) you can find the latest version 60.10 here. #2) patches by Cosmos to version 66.16 you will find here. use 68060.library v60.10 to apply the patches by cosmos. Last edited by emufan; 24 February 2018 at 17:43. Reason: now all icons/programs working - and disk does boot now |
