Amiga 600 vs Amiga 1200 Composite Output Quality

Hiya,

Just a general question, but I have noticed my Amiga 600 and Amiga 1200 have very different quality of output over composite.

Both have been recapped.

The Amiga 600 has really quite good composite output, nice and clear and you can see the pixels just fine on a standard 14" portable TV when using PAL Lores. Just fine for doing pixel art on.

The Amiga 1200 is very blurry on composite, same cable, same TV. It's not a major issue as I usually use a Amiga RGB to SCART, to HDMI, to LCD adapter, but sometimes when streaming I would occasionally like to use the Amiga 1200 with myself on the portable TV and the RGB output going eventually to the capture card.

Are there usually differences between the composite quality on these machines? The A600 is a rev. 1.5 and the A1200 is a 1D1.

Thanks!

For comparison, here are my A1200 rev 1A, A1200 Rev 1D, and A600 displaying the standard WB3.0 screen in composite. All are original with no capacitor replacements or other work done to them.

IMO they all look pretty good, though the middle one (A1200 rev 1D) appears to be a bit 'cleaner'.

If your A1200 is significantly worse than this then it may have a fault. If any capacitors around the RGB to composite converter were leaking they may have corroded a solder joint or damaged a component.

Yeah your screen shots looked similar to mine when I was plugged into the TV. It was good for LOW-RES work but I'm sure doing HIGH-RES work would kill your eyes.

Bruce: What accelerators do you use on your Amigas? It would have been nice if your RAM was displayed in the tool bar. What do you think of the current trademe.co.nz prices?
