BlitzBombers

Hi All,

I recently remembered about this game, and grabbed it from Aminet.
http://aminet.net/package/game/2play/BlitzBombers

Unfortunately it doesn't like me or my Amiga Has anyone tried it on an expanded machine?

I get a pretty much instant failure wth error code 8000 0020. If I boot with no startup sequence and try, I get the initial loading screen buried in a morass of graphical corruption.

Keen to see if it's just me (likely, given any expanded Amiga is a mass of carefully balanced patches!).

Cheers!

Also works for me fine via WinUAE.

Think I'm using the following config:

a) 68020
b) AGA (no "cycle-exact")
c) KS 3.1 (A1200)
d) 2MB Chip and 4MB Fast RAM

What is you hardware config? Guru: "not initialized TRAP-Vector". On my A1240 3.1 + patches the game works started from WB but with "long read from $1". Maybe a VBR issue?

Have a feeling it's likely something to do with the hardware yup:

A1200 (Rev 2B, recap and all fixes carried out)
Blizzard 1260 with 64Mb
Mediator with:
- Radeon 9250 (adds 96mb to fastram pool)
- Soundblaster 128
- Realtek NIC
- Spider II USB

AmigaOS 3.9 patched up to BB4, using MMULib and associated libs and programs too.

All other games seem happy, and WHDLoad stuff runs great - might try stopping networking/usb and having another go!

Cheers for trying it though - means I know it can work on an 060

My Amiga 060 setup is:

A1200 (Rev 1.D.4 Recapped with timing fix and PCMCIA activity mods)
Blizzard 1260 with 64Mb
Mediator with:
- Radeon 9200
- Soundblaster 128
- Realtek NIC
- Spider II USB

As you can see it's very similar to yours, the only difference is that I'm just using BB 1 & 2 unless that's the reason the game isn't working?

Haha! Practically identical setups

I've just done a wee experiment and edited my SS to launch it if I hold the left MB down, which seems to work fine, so I had wondered if it was due to the RTG screenmode on the Radeon, but maybe not if you can run it OK.

I'll do the usual dance of disabling patches and see if I can find the culprit

First try the stuff mentioned in the readme (VBR to fastram patch and softkick ROM).

I play it with my son time to time. Never has a problem with it with 68040 or 68060 Amigas.

I also has 1&2. 3&4 are pain.

Only issue i ever had With that game was sound disappeared or the music but was only an issue with my Apollo 060.

I ran the game with a mediator sx.voodoo 3 and native output through my tv card.

The readme.txt from http://aminet.net/package/game/2play/BlitzBombers
On top of the readme.txt there is a small *NOTE* part.

Found it - yeah think I skipped that due to the fact it only mentioned music not playing. Can confirm the game works fine if I run it from the startup-sequence, at present I have it working great by launching it after Setpatch/Loadmodule etc, but before all the assigns.

Just tried running it with SnoopDos sitting in the background, the fail seems to be with a call to 'FindRes' - could it be as simple as the default res (via the Radeon) of 1280x1024 is beyond anything it expects to see?

Ok, found the offending patch, the problem was in fact caused by: http://aminet.net/package/util/wb/TopazPatch

Removed it from user startup and can play BlitzBombers!
