Magic Pockets: Difference between SKID ROW and CRYSTAL crack?
Hi,
as Cody just uploaded Magic Pockets to the Zone, this reminded me of an old story. And since more and more guys from CRYSTAL, CLASSIC and other cracking groups of the Amiga heyday are showing up here, there might be an explanation in a blink of an eye! OK listen... I wonder what's the difference between the two cracks. Quoting the intro message of the SKID ROW crack... Quote:
None the wiser! So, does anyone know the actual differences without me having to play the game until the very end? |

My *guess* is they've cracked different versions of the game. There's an European version of Magic Pockets (without level code) and an US version (with level codes and different layout of level 1 - just like the PC version).

If there hadn't been a request for this version in this thread, I would've really been upset! Upset about myself because of lacking visionary abilities, that is |

As i believe both versions are equal . CRYSTAL version is from 2tuff
2tuff quote: OUR FIRST CRACK WITH AN ORIGINAL SUPPLIED BY ME WAS *RODLAND* IT WAS THE 1ST EVER CRACK TO BE RELEASED SAME DAY AS THE TITLE CAME OUT AND ON A DINNER TIME. INFACT WE AT CRYSTAL SHOOK THE SCENE WITH THE SPEED OF THE CRACKS FOR A LONG TIME. AFTER A LONGISH PERIOD SKID-ROW TRIED TO COMPETE WITH US, BUT WAS EASILY DESTORYED, THEY STARTED TO USE THE SAME PLACE I WAS BUT THEIR SUPPLIER HAD TO COME FROM LIVERPOOL AND BACK WHERE AS I ONLY LIVED ABOUT 4 MILE AWAY FROM WHERE I USED TO GET THE ORIGINALS. I REMEMBER WHEN MOST THE TITLES INFACT VIRTUALLY ALL FOR A FUCKING WHILE WERE JUST RELEASED BY *CRYSTAL* AFTER A MASSIVE LENGTH OF TIME AND RELEASES OTHERS STARTED TO FLOAT AROUND LIKE A TURD NUGGET ON THE TOP OF THE TOILET WATER, PEOPLE SUCH AS QUARTEX, MINISTRY/NEMESIS/CLASSIC ETC. THEY WERE ALL GOING WHERE I WAS BUT WE WERE STILL BEATING THEM ALL TO A MASSIVE PERCENTAGE OF THE GAMES. EVERYONE KNEW OUR CRACKS WERE VERY RELIABLE AND EVEN WHEN SOME OF THEM WERE DEFEATED BY A LONG TIME AND THEY THEN DOUBLE RELEASED US PEOPLE WOULD STILL HAVE OUR VERSION. As i remember as this time the supplier from Liverpool was known as Annihilator a.k.a. Belfast a.k.a Riot ... |

If you're really right, and if this version really exists, I want to see it! This game is quite hard ... so it would be fantastic to see a US version with level codes! So US guys, please check your disk boxes! @Time Bandit: You seem to be right. I played the first three levels - no difference to the CRYSTAL crack. |

The US version does have level codes
I am yet to actually find a copy, I have found the level codes if you want them The WHD install also supports the US version, which apparently was released in 1992 |

Okay I have just compared the 2 versions of the game, and as alot of you know the Bitmaps put the versions within the actual game image, and they are present in the cracks.. so here is what I have gotten from the ADF's:
Crystal : Copyright 1991 The Bitmap Brothers.. V1.0 Version 11:09:91 Serial No amigauk284b661 Skidrow : Copyright 1991 The Bitmap Brothers.. V1.0 Version 18:09:91 Serial No amiga 67643b661 So it looks like Crystal Cracked the UK ver and Skid Row the EU ver |

Going slightly off-topic here, but am I the only person here that thinks that this game was amongst the bitmaps poorest games?

... maybe bitmaps bros. poorest (CE2 is worst imho) but still above the average jump'n run crap. It's too damn hard without level codes and too easy with, but it's very rewarding if you've figured out how the scoring system works and if you know how to find the secrets. But I'm a bit(map bros.) biased
