I'm trying to recall whether this already works? I used the .img when working on CF image.

WinUAE has excellent image support for hdd and cd

Unfortunately, the .img extension is used for many file titles, for example for HD images, CDs, Floppies and much more.

As for Image HD on WinUAE you can fix this simply by renaming .IMG to . HDF

Yeah, WinUae reads *.VHD fine

Does this mean that if I create a .HDF in WinUAE (or floppy) it will work if I
rename it to .img to use in other programs (like the PCEMU or DOSBox)?

Yes, but it would be of no use because the operating systems used in these virtual machines are unable to read the Amiga partition table and file system. It would be like connecting an Amiga hard disk to a PC: it would appear as empty / uninitialized

The other way would work work better because for AmigaOS there is software like Fat95 or CrossDOS which can read PC partitions.

Floppy images won't work, either because PC floppies are 720K or 1440K while Amiga floppies are 880K or 1760K.

Yes, theoretically it is possible, the problem you encounter was explained by thomas. Moreover, the HDF if well configured can be written on a CF, SD or HD through a program such as "USB Tool Image" or "SDImager" and start it on a Real Amiga.
