WipeOut XL (2097)
I've found on an abandonware site an iso of this game but i'm searching for a patch that can handle to run it without the CD and with the music.
i've find a NOCD but then, music aren't played even if i copy myself the files. Also if the patch can fix a max FPS value it could help too. |

In reality it's really just a different term for pirated software. If permission has been given by the copyright owners, it's become freeware. A game can never really "become" abandonware. |

Surely a modern app. like Daemon tools or Alchol 120% would be able to mount that ISO and then all is solved

hmm sorry, first i forget to mention that it's the PC version of the game.
As StarEye said, if the site own the permission from the authors/company to host the game then it's legal. BTTR host lot of game in this way. The music of Wipe Out XL on PC are stored as file and not as CD Audio track. Of course using Daemon Tool or a similar tool handle to play the game with the music but it doesn't solve the FPS max problem and also i prefer to host the game as file on my hd. |

Well you have the ISO, no need to burn it to a actual CDR, just mount the ISO then?
As for this FPS Max problem I have no idea. I would have thought GameCopy World and Mega Games would have had some patches. Also Mega Games lists WipeOut XL and WipeOut 2097 as seperate games, where your title lists it together as 1 game? (Just found out its a region thing so all is ok now ) Anyhow take a look here : WipeOut XL things WipeOut 2097 A patch here that claims to slow things down for fast PCs and some network play stuff Found some forum posts that say your best chance to getting the game working right is some kind of SlowDown CPU app too. |

@Hungry Horace : are you ironic or do you mean i'm stupid ? i want the game ready to play without using an external tool to run it as Daemon Tool.
@Drf : Thanks for the link, i already check MegaGames link. Itt seems i'm not the only one with this problem, already explain in the forum's link. Unfortunately all files link are dead |

ever thought to use either VDMsound or even DOSBOX to get the dos sound emulation working? ... its clearly an old game that the newer windows versions dont have a clue to use
dosbox can slow the game down so you're playing it like on a 486dx66 (if you wish).... and also emulates dos sound vdm just does the sound (i think!) |

@EmuChicken
From what I remember its a Windows game. It has options for Direct 3D if I remember and those horrid PVR cards which is how I got WipeOut 2097 it came with the card, and never worked right with that LoL |

This worked for me, just unzip it to the game's install directory and the max. framerate should now be 30 instead of 60, if you type the word FRAMERATE while the game is running it will show the current render speed at the top of the screen.

It would probably help if I had typed the entire URL http://oddbod.merkin.cx/Wipeout2_speedfix.zip

They're not exactly the same but with a little file duplication you can use either game EXE with either CD, the fixed speed fixed EXE is from WXL but I'm running without major issue using a 2097 CD. Last edited by OddbOd; 21 November 2007 at 06:51. Reason: More info added |

@OddBod
Are you sure it hunts out the first optical drive? Or is this one of those games that will only see the CD in the drive it was installed from, I have had that recently with a copy of the Sims. So if it was installed from say F: it will always look in F: Worth checking out? |
