Super Stardust Problems

This game is a pig to get working...

I did a search, and this got me past my first problem (the game asking for disk 1 when it's already inserted), but when I actually play the game, when I complete the level nothing happens. It doesn't go to the bonus screen or anything like that, and you can still fly around the level, but even when the timer runs out it doesn't actually end. So you basically just zoom around the screen forever. The only way out is to press Escape to get back to the title screen.

I'm using a standard A1200 setup (020, 2MB chip RAM), I turned JIT off and put More Compatible on, and have put both the CPU and chipset sliders to the far left (which, if I understood correctly, is supposed to work) but none of this makes any difference at all.

Does anyone have any ideas?

EDIT: It was this thread I looked at by the way.

That's strange because that doesn't work for me... nothing I've tried seems to. I am using the newest Beta version though, I don't know if that's got anything to do with it...

To be honest I don't think I've ever tried configuring it again in anything besides WinUAE v1.0.0 (never did get around to trying it in WinUAE v1.3.4)...

I have just noticed though, that you were using .ipf files. I'm using the cracked ADF files off Planetemu, so I do wonder if that's the problem. Then again when I played it on my real Amiga using this version (before I WHDLoaded it) it always worked perfectly.

(The reason I want to play it in WinUAE despite having it on my A1200 is so I can take part in Lemon Amiga's score competition, you know, so I can actually take a screenshot of my score )

The ipf's work fine, but I've not been able to get the adf's working properly for ages (i'm sure they worked once) although you can get it to end the levels properly with some configuration tweaking it ends up corrupting the graphics...i've not found any config that makes the adfs work flawlessly.

Hmm, a shame, that. If anyone does get a configuration that get the game working (being able to complete a level would be a start ) to some extent, I'd really appreciate it if they could upload it, thanks!

Wow, what a way to mark my 1,000th post

Also WHD installed version, in WinUAE, works fine and you don't need special cfgs...

C'mon guys, use your heads! It's probably right down the hall, and..uh uh uh, here it comes, here it comes, here it comes annnnnd, bingo! ha ha!

First config I tried and it worked flawlessly using the "Super Stardust (1994)(Team 17)(AGA)[cr PSG](Disk 1 of 6).zip" disks in TOSEC. I played past the first map thingy (6 levels) and made it to the tunnel sequence....where I died I saw no problems at all

CPU: 68020+JIT. Fastest possible, but maintain chipset timing. CPU idle bar is 2 bars from left (default?). No FPU
Chipset: AGA. Faster RTG is ticked (shouldn't matter). Sprites and Sprites vs Playfield collision. Sound emulated 100% accurate.
ROM: 3.1 A1200 (40.68)
RAM: Chip 2mb, Fast 8mb, Z3 Fast 64mb, RTG 16mb. um. This was one of my HDD configs, so you probably wanna take down the RAM a little
Floppy Drives: All 4 enabled with TURBO POWA!. Yes, turbo didn't make a difference to the game. It still ran well. 4 disks in drives. When it asks to switch, do the switch and wait a little. It polls every drive until it finds the right disk.
Hard Drives: None. I removed them before I started, just in case, but I assume it wouldn't make a difference.

Oh, and I feel like watching Short Circuit now.

Big stardust fan here!

I've completed the game a couple of times under emulation. A while ago I also read the thread you linked and decided to try SSD again. I came up with the config file in attachment. I used the same release of SSD (with ADFs) used in the thread. Used WinUAE 1.4.1.

I made a save-state at the main menu, to avoid having to tinker with the CPU slider during boot-time. Then I was able to play through to world 4 with no problems, but unable to play world 5 zones after warping in. I had made a save state at the start of world 5, but couldn't get it to work despite of any config adjustments. It worked fine after playing to world 5 again from the main menu save state though - I'd advise to just keep trying

But Ironclaw, that's not much use if you're trying to enter a highscore competition.

Got the adfs working, but only with JIT on.

It hung again after completing a level, as soon as i turned jit on it carried on quite happily..

edit: got the adfs working without jit, cpu needed to be set to adjustable and i had the cpu slider all the way to the left.

Thanks everyone for your responses, I won't have time to test it out for a couple of days but I'll probably give it another go (or I'll give up before it drives me nuts ).
