Hi guys,

Matt made a gargantuan* interview with with Agustín Cordes, author of indie adventure games. It's great. Enjoy!

Hey Matt, very well done interview and video.

* At last I got a chance to write "gargantuan" somewhere.

I've known Agus for years, he's not only very talented but also a great guy. I even met him in person when I traveled to Buenos Aires for a conference six years ago. I'm beta testing Asylum of course, it's still in the early alpha stages but it already looks very promising!

Hey Matt, how come you're doing half an hour of show now?
I really appreciate you are interviewing indie developers as well. I guess what is now indie was pretty much industry standard in the 80s.

Good interview..
It's interesting that he sees the "indie market" as a fairly new thing tho...

I can kind of see what he's saying, but I would say that there has been an "indie market" the whole time.. I've always though that shareware was pretty much an indie setup.
Heck, MegaBall is still my favorite Indie game ever.. ;-)

@gilgamesh I don't know. It just seemed easier this time to make two long shows rather than break it up into many smaller ones. What do you think would be better? A long show like this, or splitting it up across more weeks? I could have easily split this up into 6 episodes worth of material and trotted it out across the same number of weeks.

Here comes the next part

[ Show youtube player ]

And again a world record of mattchating.

If it feels better in one chunk, then it probably is. Half an hour doesn't feel different to 15 minutes imo. 45 min approaches evening filling. I for one like the longer episodes, and surely wouldn't drag an interview over a span of 6 weeks. Two or three are ok attention span-wise.

Half hour is fine here
have to agree with gilgamesh and 45mins it is a bit on the long side
though the odd quickie at 10-15 mins is quite nice

I think it's great youtube are now allowing trusted users to upload long videos and I'd rather see the whole thing as Matt interviews some really interesting people.

I didn't find it too long, but I guess it does encourage people to skip through. The only other solution is releasing in more parts, but that just means more clicks and waiting to watch the same thing.

One of my favourite episodes so far, I really enjoyed these!

... and I have to admit - I've never played Scratches
So that's the next game I'll play after I'm done replaying PQ3.

I've been going back and forth about the length. 45 minutes is probably too long, but I'm not sure what the sweet spot is for it. 30 minutes? 25? 20? How long do you feel comfortable sitting there watching a video on YouTube, even if it's something interesting that you enjoy?

What is the ideal length for an episode? I'm leaning towards 25-30 mins for the interviews, maybe 15 for the retrospectives.

Personally I could spend hours watching interesting interviews like that, but I think you're right about 25-30 minutes for interviews... longer than that and I think people might often just look at the time and give up before even starting.

surly it depends on content, If its interesting and theres a lot of it then devote lots of time per episode and vicaversa

you doing internet TV so not limited to time constraints a traditional TV brodcatser would, take for example the faluty towers series by john cless non of them are exacltly the same length much to the disgruntlement of the bbc

Google Talks usually last well over 1h, which is a bit daunting. Fun stuff usually stays around 20min. After a quick survey, is seems me to me like there are some lengths that have a special significance: below 20min, 50min, 70min. These show up regularly on TV and Youtube.

Anyway, I don't think it is that important. 25-30min sounds cool.

To be honest (that's a weird phrase really... like I normally would lie about it.. anyway), I watched the first 20 minutes or so and then stopped..

I went back to it later to finish it up.. Part of it was that I had to make dinner, but I was drifting a bit by then..

It's not that I have a short attention span in general, but.
what? just saw something..

anyway, that's why I prefer Ultima to Bard's Tale
