February Quiz - Answers & Score A tough beginning of the new quiz year is now over. Nobody got everything right and just a handful of games have been guessed by more than 50% of all players. This means you can be proud of correctly guessing a title... because probably most participants won't have gotten it. Warning: There are some unmarked spoilers in the comments, as some "big guns" are part of the narrative of the game (think about doomsday devices in J-RPGs). 1) Star Wars Arcade Here's a segment from the Sega 32X port of the Arcade Game from 1994. What you see is of course the giant laser of the Death Star. solved by: 76% other suggestions: Another World, Metal Gear, satelite reign, Star Wing, Wing Commander 2) Final Fantasy VII The 7th part has several big stationary guns ("Big Cannon" and "Sister Ray"). solved by: 80% other suggestions: Grandia, Nier Automata 3) Advance Wars: Dual Strike Along with FF7 this title was the easiest entry in this riddle. solved by: 80% other suggestions: 3x Metal Slug 4) Doom Eternal This is the BFG-10000 on Phobos. solved by: 49% other suggestions: 4x Halo, 3x Dead Space, Destiny, Endurance, Mass Effect, Star Citizen, X3: Albion Prelude 5) Starcraft 2 solved by: 50% other suggestions: 4x Command & Conquer, Myth III, Warcraft 6) Saints Row IV solved by: 45% other suggestions: 4x Metal Wolf Chaos, Bulletstorm, Fallout, Freedom Fighters, Homefront, Metal Gear Rising Revengance, Quake 4, Vanquish, Wolfenstein 7) Turok The Chronoscepter, you have to collect its individual parts first. solved by: 73% other suggestions: - 8.) Monster Hunter World The perfect game for oversized weaponry. solved by: 49% other suggestions: Xenogears, Xenoblade Chronicles, White Knight Chronicles, Armed and Dangerous 9) Planescape Torment Here you see the "Mechanus Cannon". solved by: 38% other suggestions: Wasteland, Valiant Hearts, Shadowrun Returns, Final Fantasy 7, Disco Elysium, Deadlands 10) Donkey Kong 64 This ray gun is the "Blast-O-Matic" of King K.Rools floating base. solved by: 42% other suggestions: Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, Conkers Bad Fur Day, Crash bandicoot, Golden Eye, Hexen, Jet Force Gemini 11) Shadows of the Damned solved by: 51% other suggestions: Battlefleet Gothic, Bayonetta 12) Giga Wing solved by: 34% other suggestions: 3x Strikers 1945, 1942, Aero Fighters, Air Strike 1944, Firehawk, Gunbird 2, Ikaruga, Raiden, Zero Gunner 2 13) Skies of Arcadia The "Moonstone Cannon" of the Delphinus. solved by: 40% other suggestions: Final Fantasy, Phantasy Star Online, Serious Sam, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Heroes, Xenogears 14) Serious Sam 4 The FRPCL - "Flaming Rocket-Propelled Chainsaw Launcher" solved by: 43% other suggestions: Borderlands, Destiny 2, Doom, Final Fantasy 8, Halo, Rage. To be fair - took a lot of research this month! There were very few I recognised and lots of games I have never heard of. Hoping for an easier Amiga based quiz next month (or 8 bit computers from the Uk)...

It's like any quiz/puzzle but with a competitive edge and based around one of our favourite hobbies. Only too much work when desperately trying to beat Nobby.

Well done everyone. I found this one really tough, and can't really complain about my score of 9. The only way is up from here!

March Quiz - DOS classics #3 A third entry of the MS-DOS riddles? Well, who really needs Microsoft Windows... this round focuses on PC classics from the 80s and 90s, a true retro quiz! It's not easy this time either, so will you still get at least half of the titles? I'm curious. Deadline is Wednesday the 31st of March, please participate via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/ Here is the quiz, good luck: direct link: https://i.imgur.com/VD0Fu6c.png |
